Location: Boston metro area – virtual
The High Bar provides expertise, training, powerful, web-based
tools and a membership community to the foot soldiers in the battle to improve
our nation's public school systems—the boards and CEOs of charter public
schools. Our primary delivery method is an online platform called BoardOnTrack.
BoardOnTrack is sold as an annual “software-as-a-service” membership to the
board and the senior staff of a charter school.
The High Bar’s
Director of Sales will be a key contributor to the company’s overall success,
responsible for working closely with the CEO to plan and execute an
aggressive sales growth strategy. The job entails strategy, systems thinking,
teamwork, and lots and lots of “plain
old roll up your sleeves and close a lot of deals”.

Is that you? You’ll be a fit for this role if you have these qualities:
Proven track record of creating a sales program
from scratch - Establishing and exceeding sales goals, and
building sustainable processes.
Ability to thrive in a start-up environment - You will own
the sales process. There will be lots of freedom to be creative, but in
addition, you will have to create many things from scratch. You will not have a
“sales team”. It will be you and the CEO until the revenue can hit agreed upon
targets to bring on additional talent.
Composure - Drive to do whatever it takes, regardless
of circumstances, to achieve results. Ability to remain calm even when faced
with the relentlessness of the work and with unexpected challenges.
Digitally savvy –
comfortable with technology, trying new tools, and harnessing the power of
current tools. You’ll have to learn our application, BoardOnTrack, inside and
out. In addition, you’ll use Salesforce, Marketo, and Totango (among others) on
a daily basis.
Capable of serving
as a brand evangelist. You’ll have to be passionate
about reversing the racial and socio-economic achievement gap generally and about charter school governance specifically—have
knowledge of, willing to get incredibly fired up about—charter schools, charter
school boards, effective board governance practices and our unique way of
solving a big problem.
Business-savvy and hyper analytical— interested in being on the front lines of determining and implementing the business development path of a
growing software company. You’ll have to
be a whiz at analyzing,
interpreting, communicating, and adjusting strategies to align with what the data
tells us. Able to compile and use data to drive
business decisions and growth paths.

Components of the Job
New Memberships Sales
us strengthen the charter school movement by bringing our unique solution to an
increasing number of charter school boards nationwide, specifically:
Partner with the CEO to define
the right sales process for our unique brand and customers.
Partner with the CEO and contract
marketing staff to create ways to identify and attract new people into our
Hit aggressive monthly and
quarterly new member sales targets.
Cultivate and convert a high % of
free trial users. Provide an effective and appropriate human touch to augment
our automated nurturing campaign. Continue to refine the free trial conversion
process to become increasingly self-sustaining.
Work with CEO on business
development opportunities that will lead to bulk selling of new memberships.
Renewals and Upselling
In partnership with the customer
Build strong, scalable,
data-driven systems to forecast and secure renewals.
Determine and implement an
appropriate upselling process.
Build strong, scalable,
data-driven systems to upsell customers to higher tiers of membership.
Leadership and Initiative
Work with CEO to develop
attainable, yet aggressive, monthly, quarterly, and annual sales targets.
Take leadership on developing
reports that measure and test the validity of our sales approach and accurately
Experience / Skills
At least 10 years of work experience in
consultative sales of software solutions and/or educational products preferably
in entrepreneurial, start-up and/or high growth organizations
Proven track record of exceeding sales goals
oriented: your success and ours will ultimately be measured “by the numbers”
Proven leadership ability
Highly motivated, ability to work independently
and with little supervision, capable of working in a virtual office environment
Action-oriented, persistent, focused on results
and analytical with strong project management skills
Ability to identify and create innovative, high
impact solutions to raise visibility of product with target audience
Comfort with online marketing and social media,
and technology in general
Outstanding oral and written communication,
presentation and relationship-building skills
Extensive knowledge of Salesforce.com and Marketo
a huge plus
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited, four-year
university, MBA or other advanced degree preferred
