Position Title: Director, User Experience and Design
Position SummaryThis position is a critical role on the E-Commerce Team, reporting to the VP, E-Commerce. This person will be responsible for leading and driving the strategic UI and design future of the web and mobile properties. The Director is responsible for driving user research, investigating emerging engagement technologies, and incorporating design innovations to deliver a rich, intuitive and engaging experience.
In this critical leadership role, the Director will provide broad user experience strategy, visual and interaction design leadership, and user-centered design methodologies to deliver measurable satisfaction and performance improvements across the site and mobile. This position is responsible for working with all business units, marketing, merchandising, analytics, application development, transportation to support and identify the user needs and business objectives for various projects. Operationally, the Director will be solely responsible for leading the visual design and UI and influence and interact directly with key stakeholders and decisions makers at the executive level to drive the strategy forward. This role is also responsible for developing Business Requirements and articulating them to relevant parties.
Essential FunctionsDevelop strategy and roadmap to evolve online and mobile experiences to deliver better engagement
Deliver world-class design and usability to web and mobile site
Define and lead ongoing usability testing and research
Act as a customer advocate
Lead User Experience portions of projects - from brainstorming and conception to architecting and business requirements
Lead Information Architecture portions of projects: determine navigational systems and define hierarchies of information
Define, update and improve user satisfaction metrics, and drive for improvement in those metrics
Keep abreast of industry trends and technologies and perform competitive analyses to identify new opportunities for web and mobile initiatives to serve the company's goals
Improve effectiveness and quality of teams through process improvement, mentoring, and hiring
Plans and carries out work assignments; resolves most conflicts which arise; coordinates work with others as necessary; interprets policy on own initiative in terms of established objectives. Keeps Team-leader informed of progress, potentially controversial matters, or far-reaching implications
Trains and assigns work to Team-members on an occasional basis; performs the same work as the group on a regular basis
Minimum Qualifications5+ years of significant track record in defining and delivering great online user experiences for web and mobile sites and web applications
Broad leadership in web and mobile user experience
Extensive command of user experience methods, design principles, problem-framing skills
Experience managing teams of UX and UI designers
Degree work in Human Factors, HCI, or related field
Demonstrated track record of UX leadership and background in Social Media, mobile web, web and mobile applications.
Experience with sites that have implemented personalization and and that deliver dynamic user experiences
Proven experience and success in visual design of interactive projects is a big plus!
