The Director of the Opportunity Program (OP: HEOP/AOP) is responsible for the effective administration of Skidmore's nationally recognized program designed to help economically and academically disadvantaged students adjust to, and thrive in, a highly selective liberal arts college environment.

Supervises five full-time professional staff (an associate director, and four academic counselors), an administrative assistant, and work-study students.

Reports to and works with the Associate Dean of Student Affairs to design and implement programmatic activities directed toward fostering high academic and personal achievement of OP students.

Oversees academic support services for OP students.
Ensures adherence to New York State Education Department (NYSED) academic and financial guidelines.
Prepares the NYSED 5-year grant proposal in conjunction with the Associate Dean of Student Affairs and other relevant campus staff.

Completes all NYSED budgets and reports, and grant reports associated with other sources of program funding
Responsible for the fiscal management and accounting of internal and external funds.

Completes annual assessment of OP student support services, and monitors the retention and achievement patterns for OP students.

Works in consultation with the OP Faculty Coordinator to hire faculty, tutors, and staff for the Summer Academic Institute (SAI).

Works with OP and SAI staff to deliver strong academic counseling and psychosocial support for incoming students during the Summer Academic Institute.

Serves as a liaison between OP and other academic and administrative offices.

May teach courses at the college depending on academic background and interests.

Minimum Qualifications:
Masters Degree in Education, Educational Psychology, Social Work, or relevant academic discipline.

3-5 years relevant experience in higher education.

Knowledge of national issues surrounding college access and achievement, and of the needs of a diverse student population, is essential for program design, implementation, and assessment.

Exceptional administrative, as well as written and oral communication skills are vital for program delivery, state education evaluation, campus credibility, and maintaining and enhancing public and private funding

Strong academic and personal counseling skills are imperative to promote academic integrity in OP, and to provide a role model for students seeking academic and personal guidance.

Extensive knowledge and/or experience in remedial/developmental education, working with an academically disadvantaged student population.

Capacity to offer high-quality academic support.
