Under general supervision coordinates components or merchandize delivery or pickup, schedules and assigns drivers, and maintains records related to delivery and customer receipt.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Assigns drivers and vehicles to convey customer orders according to desired or anticipated delivery
schedule; may direct drivers by two-way radio; may establish service or delivery routes for regular customers.
Confers with customers and/or sales staff in person or by phone to determine desired delivery times;
creates daily/weekly master schedule to assist drivers and materials handling staff in planning their work activities.
Enters delivery assignment data into computer data base; records or files copies of orders received
according to expected delivery time in dispatch log; processes documents on completed deliveries and forwards to office coordinator or receiving staff.
Maintains record of mileage, fuel used, repairs made and other delivery-related expenses.
Responds to customer complaints/questions regarding deliveries; expedites or locates missing,
misrouted, delayed or damaged merchandise.
Understands and observes all safety procedures and practices in order to prevent injury to self or co-workers; attends periodic safety meetings as required; may recommend changes to improve safety procedures.
Other duties may be assigned.
Basic knowledge of company’s policies and procedures related to scheduling, and dispatching
Knowledge of DOT or other requirements regulating work activities
Customer service orientation
Ability to use courtesy and tact in dealing with customers and other staff
Working knowledge of the business practices of the location
Ability to organize multiple activities for self and others and coordinate completion of tasks
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED) and two (2) years of administrative or similar experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
