Provides basic life support information to help stabilize victims of acute injury/illness before transportation to a medical facility.
Serves as the first contact with the caller.
Calms and directs the actions of lay persons, provides pre-arrival instructions to lay persons, passes on pertinent information, and provides direction to incoming ambulance personnel.
May be required to perform as a member of an ambulance crew.
High school graduate or equivalent.
Completion of a State of Texas approved Emergency Medical Technician program.
Display basic telecommunication skills and good telephone technique.
Computer literate. Must be at least the minimum age, as outlined by the current service insurance provider.
Current Certification or Licensure by the Texas Department of State Health Services as an EMT.
Current insurable Texas Driver’s License.
Must complete Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) certification within 6 months.
One-year experience as Emergency Medical Technician or equivalent training.
Prior experience in the telecommunication field.
