Under the direction of a Dissertation Support Center Supervisor, Dissertation Support Representatives support the mission of Capella University’s Dissertation Support Center. Dissertation Support Representatives are responsible for handling case assignments and engaging in processing, data entry, and record management for the comprehensive exam and dissertation process.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Comprehensive Exam Processing:
Processing Comprehensive Exams in accordance with standard practices and school requirements.
Mentor & Committee Assignments:
Processing Mentor and Committee assignments in accordance with standard practices and school requirements.
Scientific Merit Review & IRB Review Processing:
Screening and processing of SMR and IRB submissions in accordance with standard practices and school requirements.This includes screening todetermine whether submissions are complete and ready for review, assignment of studies for review, managing the reviewer workflow and queue, and processing review determinations. Dissertation Support Representatives will monitor to ensure reviews are completed in accordance with standard service level agreements and notify IRB Specialists or school leads of overdue reviews to ensure appropriate follow up. Dissertation SupportRepresentatives will notify IRB Specialists, and leads when initial screening suggests serious deficiencies in the submission that present a risk to learner success.
End of Dissertation Processing:
Facilitating final review andprocessing of Dissertation Manuscript in preparation for final publication. This includes use of Turn It In and review or Originality Report to ensure research integrity prior to publication. This also involves coordination with UMI Proquest.
Data entry to ensure documentation of learner milestone completion within the dissertation process. This documentation is essential for monitoring learner progress in the dissertation
And other duties as assigned
Although much of the work of Dissertation Supportstaff follows proscribed practices, the array and complexity of these responsibilities and the vital importance of this work to learner success in dissertation demands careful attention to detail and problem solving skills.
A BA or BS degree is preferred. Three years post- baccalaureate experience in an academic environment or equivalent field may be substituted for the degree.
Extensive knowledge and expertise in Dissertation SupportCenter and Capella University policies, processes and practices.
The ability to consistently adhere to practice with careful attention to detail while performing work efficiently.
Able to move easily from one task to another and handle a high case load in a fast paced and stressful environment.
Critical thinking and coordinated effort to ensure appropriate handling of a wide variety of cases.
A strong record of case management as well as adherence to standard Service Level Agreements.
