The Hampton Roads District is seeking a District Engineer Construction to lead, direct and be accountable for the complex operations for the Construction unit of the Hampton Roads District. The position provides strategic planning and execution of the agency's transportation program and plays a key role in building partnerships with various levels of government, elected officials, non-profit and private sector groups, construction contractors, suppliers and employees to better serve the public in meeting current and future transportation needs.
Comprehensive knowledge of the heavy construction industry. Considerable knowledge of federal, state and local regulations, policies and practices impacting transportation construction. Ability to comprehend technical concepts and blend with sound business decisions. Ability to lead people and get results through others. Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to maneuver through sensitive and political situations effectively. Ability to make quality and timely decisions with incomplete information. Demonstrated integrity and trust, modeling the VDOT values in the performance of the work. Demonstrated successful leadership of people and projects with increasing responsibilities in the transportation/engineering/construction industry covering a variety of technical and administrative functions. Professional Engineering license (PE) is required upon hire. Successful candidate is required to obtain a Virginia PE registration within 6 months of hire.
This position is eligible for telework opportunities; availability, hours, and duration are at the sole discretion of the Department Manager in accordance with VDOT's Teleworking policy.
Advanced degree in Engineering or related field preferred.
DMV records check by the Department is required. Criminal history records check and fingerprint check are required.
A driver's license valid in Virginia.
Completion of a Statement of Economic Interest is required upon employment.
