Position Summary:
The District Manager controls, directs, and participates in the Operational activities of assigned stores in the district. The primary responsibility of the District Manager is to provide leadership, focus, direction and coaching to store personnel to achieve Districts performance plan targets. Target areas include sales, store contribution, inventory, asset protection, merchandise presentation, associate productivity and satisfaction, manager performance and development, turnover, customer service and satisfaction, mark-down compliance, and loss prevention audit scores. Other targets may be added as needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Sales Goals
  • Achievement of sales goals through store performance, merchandising, customer service
  • Development of sales-building tactics
  • Implement sales training
  • Coordination of in-store promotions

    Financial Management
  • Monitoring expenditures to keep cost at the stores in line with goals
  • Adhering to goals to maximize profitability
  • Monitoring payroll

    Store Operations Standards
  • Use the Store Audit Template to ensure operational effectiveness and performance against standards
  • Prepare detailed notes of areas for improvement and review with management
  • Follow up on notes from last visit
  • Recognize extra effort and good performance

    Customer Service
  • All employees give customers 100% of their attention
  • Ensure that employees are knowledgeable about products
  • Ensure that employees adhere to dress code
  • Follow up on any customer service problems by reviewing customer complaints with store personnel
  • Personally respond to serious customer service breakdowns

  • Ensure that stores comply with all laws, all company policies, and all current communications
  • Stores maintain safe working environments
  • Check stores to insure mark-down compliance

  • Ensure all inventory procedures are performed efficiently
  • Stores are prepared effectively for physical inventories
  • Oversight of Stockroom; compliance with corporate directives

    Asset Protection
  • Review Asset Protection procedures and best practices with store personnel to ensure that shrink numbers are below system average
  • Instruct all store personnel in effective asset protection management practices
  • Follow up on any negative items from LP audit
  • Record and return damages per company policy

  • Ensure all communication to the stores is effective, positive, and supportive
  • Respond to email and voice mail within one work day (24 hours).
  • Ensure that stores are executing the communications received from the corporate office

    Employee Development and Planning
  • Know the names of all employees in all stores
  • Coach and direct managers to improve performance in areas of deficiency
  • Train managers in areas needing improvement
  • Work w/ HR on employee complaints, investigations, and terminations
  • Responsible for staffing
  • Monitor Managers in Training for sufficient progress

    Store Maintenance and Repair
  • Facilitate the immediate repair on any items creating hazardous conditions
  • Communicate with Facilities to get needed work completed
  • Ensure that store is maintained by employees: carpets and floors cleaned, stock areas kept neat and organized

    Educational Requirements and Experience

    Minimum Requirements:
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree preferred
  • Minimum two years District Manager experience in the Retail industry with proven results

    Skills and Competencies:
  • Ability to develop and train work force, build relationships, utilize skills of workforce most appropriately.
  • Ability to merchandise and manage store operations effectively.
  • Ability to provide outstanding customer service.
  • Ability to maintain a fair, consistent set of standards as they apply to work force.
  • Ability to adjust priorities and manage time wisely in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to maintain records and documentation pertaining to work force.
  • Ability to communicate in a clear, concise, understandable manner, and listen attentively to others, understand material, and provide instructions to all employees.
  • Ability to operate all equipment necessary to perform the job. Familiarity with Retail Pro a plus.
  • Ability to work a full-time schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Retail management experience required.
  • Ability to handle multi-million dollar sales volume.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, organization and follow-through skills.
  • Availability to travel.
