Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies:
An ideal candidate will have knowledge and skills in the areas of leadership, organizational development, and research-based transformation practices designed to increase student achievement. Knowledge of federal, state, and local policies and regulations is required, particularly those related to schools and districts in transformation. Expertise in and experience with the NC Evaluation System and professional standards for teachers, school executives, and superintendents is essential, as is knowledge of the NC Standard Course of Study, including Common Core and Essential Standards. Strong oral and communication skills are critical, as is the ability to interact effectively with diverse populations. In addition, the ideal candidate will have excellent problem-solving, team-building, and interpersonal skills.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
Minimum requirements include a master's degree in Education, Educational Leadership, School Administration, Curriculum and Instruction, or a closely related field and six years of experience in public education, including a minimum of three years in an administrative capacity; or a doctoral degree in Education, Educational Leadership, School Administration, Curriculum and Instruction, or a closely related field and three years of experience in public education including two years in an administrative or supervisory capacity; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
A competitive candidate will have licensure in one of the designated areas and a minimum of 10 years of experience, including successful supervisory experience, as well as successful experience in multiple leadership positions such as principal, assistant superintendent, or superintendent. Successful experience teaching and/or coaching adult learners, including experience as a mentor, curriculum facilitator, or another coaching position in a local education agency is preferred as well.
