The Department of Pediatrics, Division of Genetic Medicine has an outstanding opportunity for a DNA Sequencing Analyst/Research Scientist Engineer 3.This position will perform assigned tasks of the highest specialized and technical level with responsibility for determining method of development, design, analysis and coordination of complex research projects and studies regarding various characteristics. Under direction of PI, independently develop technical work methods in production of projects and analyses of research data.

Determine the development, design, implementation, maintenance and modification of complex research projects, involving data collection and manipulation, analytical modeling, computer application and reporting systems. Specific work will focus on analyzing patterns of genetic variation and applying these analyses to make inferences about demographic history and natural selection, and to identify genes underlying both Mendelian and complex traits. Manipulate large data sets (preferably using PERL or some other high- level programming language). Working knowledge of UNIX/LINUX operating systems, and genomic databases (e.g., NCBI).

Requirements: Master's degree in molecular biology, genetics, epidemiology, bioinformatics, or a related field AND 1 to 3 years of related work experience. Requires an independent and highly motivated individual with demonstrated expertise in human genetics, genomics, and statistical analysis.

Must have strong working knowledge and experience in integrating human population genetics, genomics, and statistical analysis and the application of those concepts to new and ongoing association studies of complex traits using exome sequencing/whole genome sequence data. Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except where there are legal requirements such as license/certification/registration. Desired: Ph.D. in molecular biology, genetics, epidemiology, bioinformatics, or a related field.

Applicants should preferably have experience in human population genetics, phylogenetic methods, and genotyping technologies. Experience in molecular biology and high-throughput environments are pluses. Candidates with a background in epidemiology and molecular biology are also strongly encouraged to apply.
