Office of Financial Aid

Non-Exempt, Regular, Full-Time, Grade 5

University of Maryland University College (UMUC) seeks a Document Management Assistant for the Office of Financial Aid. Under direct supervision, perform moderately complex multi-functional clerical/operational duties that contribute to the success of the Financial Aid Document Management team. Work involves a limited variety of specialized tasks and methods consistent with a clearly defined team-based work environment and continuous quality improvement objectives.

  • Processing a high volume of documents submitted from various sources
  • Scanning and indexing of documents
  • Working with FA Counselors to process special documents
  • Corresponding with students via email and/or fax and on occasion telephone
  • Operating office equipment such as multi-line telephones, scanners, document imaging, personal computers, facsimile machines, etc.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: High School Diploma and at least one (1) year of experience in clerical work. Working knowledge of general office practices, procedures and equipment; Skills in operating office equipment, effective telephone skills, excellent grammar, spelling and punctuation skills; Ability to independently perform a limited range of clerical and operational tasks including data entry, basic arithmetic, calculations, completion of standard forms and creation and maintenance of computer files; Ability to follow oral and written procedures and processes; Ability to work effectively in a team-based environment; Ability to understand and apply team quality and performance standards.

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Familiarity with PeopleSoft and document imaging preferred; Degree seeking candidates preferred.

Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience. Qualified candidates will have demonstrated computer literacy.
