The College Board, a national educational organization, is conducting a search for a Domain Architect, in our Business Technology Department, who will be resident in our Reston, VA Office.
The Enterprise Domain Architect will be a critical technical lead role within the Enterprise Platforms organization. The role will be responsible for evaluating and defining the technical architecture and roadmap and overseeing the implementation of solutions within this group. The individual will work closely with the Enterprise Architecture team during the upfront concept and initiation stages as well as provide technical oversight and direction to the Enterprise Platforms development teams during the execution of projects.
This Enterprise Domain Architect will work closely with the Enterprise Architecture group in developing an Enterprise Platforms needs assessment and roadmap based on our current technology landscape, proposed initiatives and industry leading tools and processes. Further, this role will investigate, improve and enforce Enterprise Platforms specific Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) processes, standards, tools and frameworks.
Demonstrates expertise in designing, programming, testing and maintaining software for College Board applications.
Provides technical leadership in primary areas of competence, and task management and project leadership support.
Demonstrates advanced knowledge in key software development and system implementation technologies.
Manage hand-off of architecture / solution from Enterprise Architecture Team
Oversee solutions implementation after they have been conceptualized from Architecture team
Lead tool analysis/decisions among delivery team
Lead architecture in non-Tier 1 efforts
Focus on Enterprise Platforms Specific thought leadership/architectural/technical needs such as framework and tools selection
Work with Enterprise Architecture group to evolve Enterprise Platforms strategic technology roadmap
Establish a forward looking framework and have focus on where we want to go. E.g., Rapid app dev (like LAMP and RoR), personalization engines, collaboration tools, social media capabilities, online commerce, etc.
Facilitate and participate in detailed data analysis necessary to measure, identify and track the quality of data and information assets in an ongoing manner
Define and participate in data governance and metadata management processes needed to adequately oversee and guide the introduction of enterprise data assets. Establish information management policies, standards and guidelines and the governance framework necessary to achieve compliance
Work with BT counterparts to develop an in-depth understanding of existing IT solutions to be able to recommend and define requirements for areas of improvement in existing data or data access architectures
Provide mentorship to the various developers in the Data Management team and participate in various communities of practice established to learn from the projects and improve the development lifecycle.
Bachelor’s Degree in a related field, plus additional related college courses or professional training, and seven plus years of progressively responsible directly-related experience, including architecture experience. Significant knowledge and experience in managing and executing data management initiatives, including data management, data warehousing, provisioning and business intelligence. 7+ years experience in data modeling and data management of enterprise wide data. Thorough understanding business process modeling, data provisioning modeling, entity relationship modeling and dimensional modeling. Experience in project management and staff mentorship. Practical knowledge of DBMS, ETL tools, reporting and analysis tools, data quality tools and data mining tools. Demonstrated ability to complete projects on time and on budget. Experience with education related data is preferred. Experience with not-for-profit organizations is desired. Job grade level commensurate with experience level and skill set.
Demonstrated competency in strategic thinking and leadership with strong abilities in relationship management.
Experience in multiple areas of data standards, data management, data warehousing and business intelligence is essential.
Solid understanding of the software development lifecycle, along with understanding of test scenarios, use cases, acceptance criteria and sequence diagrams.
Experience in business process analysis, design and documentation.
Excellent verbal and written communication capabilities, skillful at negotiation, solid team worker, and experienced leader with demonstrated abilities in analysis, problem solving, and facilitation.
Demonstrated ability to work with teams comprised of personnel throughout an organization that are tasked with the successful development, testing, distribution, and implementation of technical applications.
Execution-focused mind set
Ability to travel when required – primarily to our NYC office or to visit with partners/vendors as needed.
