· Development and Advancement Opportunities This position is a 'float' position and required the candidate to work 40-hours per week as follows: Sunday through Saturday, 4 or 5 days on with two rotating days off that will change weekly. Must be available to work between the hours of 6 am and 9 pm. An additional $2 per hour is paid for the extreme flexible nature of the job.


Education:
High school diploma or equivalent, required

Experience:
Previous experience in a continuous processing environment or related healthcare industry preferred. Entry level customer care, inventory management and distribution knowledge desirable.

Position Responsibilities:
Greets, registers, screens and performs vital signs on prospective donors/patients.
Greets donors/patients when presenting to the collection site.
Registers donors and instructs donor on completion of the Blood Donation Record (BDR).
Accurately interviews, screens and ensures donor confidentiality and records donor "Medical History" including thorough examination of the BDR either manual or electronically.
Accurately performs, evaluates and records hematocrit/hemoglobin test, temperature, blood pressure, pulse, weight and height.
Obtains informed consent.
Inspects and records donor arms for injections marks.
Approves and/or defers and records donor eligibilityand consults with Supervisor and/or Technical Support Staff when Standard Operating Procedures do not specifically address eligibility.
Ensures donor confidentiality.
Evaluates donors for potential automated collections by evaluating donor eligibility for automated procedures.

  • Performs all aspects of phlebotomy (whole blood and sample collection) procedures.
  • Greets donors/patients and verifies donor and BDR correspond at phlebotomy station.
    Performs and records venipuncture / collection of whole blood (allogeneic, and therapeutic) and test samples.
    Performs, ensures and verifies correct labeling of Blood Donation Record, sample tubes, and collection sets with Donor Identification numbers (DIN).
    Solves "Special Situations" that occur during the procedure.
    Dresses donation site(s) and informs donor of post donation instructions.

    Performs all aspects of donor apheresis collections.
    Understands and performs multiple apheresis collections (double red, plasma, platelet pheresis) on multiple automated collection devices.
    Sets up and programs apheresis machine with appropriate collection tubing set and information for the procedure.
    Accurately label all apheresis products.
    Explain procedure to donors and obtain informed consent.
    Performs venipuncture(s) for access and, when appropriate, return line.
    Collects appropriate component(s) and completes the appropriate "Procedure Record."
    Monitors donor throughout procedure, resolves alarm problems and, when necessary, adjusts parameters and records problems and interventions.
    Performs, ensures and verifies correct labeling of Blood Donation Record, Procedure Sheet, sample tubes, and bags with DIN.
    Dresses donation site(s) and informs donor of post donation instructions.
    Enters relevant pheresis data into data warehouse applications.

  • Recognizes and implements appropriate intervention for donor/patient reactions.
  • Evaluates impending reaction and implements interventions to prevent reactions.
    Recognizes impending and/or actual reactions.
    Provides and records intervention.
    Informs donor/patient of post-reaction care.

  • Performs quality control on equipment and initiates corrective action as necessary.
  • Performs and records equipment quality control.
    Implements corrective action, notifies supervisor and records when equipment is out of compliance.
    Reviews equipment Quality Control records as assigned.

  • Ensures proper handling of blood products for storage and transport.
  • Inspects DINs on collection set, record(s), and sample tubes for accuracy and completeness.
    Heat seals tubing of collection sets.
    Stores, packs and transports product collections and sample tubes.

  • Through organization’s customer care goals, promote donor retention.
  • Provides service which exceeds customer’s expectation.
    Treats donor cordially, courteously and with respect when answering questions and handling difficult situations.
    Thanks each donor and asks to schedule their next appointment.

  • Record documentation on blood donation records and other forms.
  • Documentation is detailed, thorough, complete and accurate.
    Written documentation is legible.
    Documentation demonstrates professionalism and an awareness of potential liability.
    Maintains and verifies accuracy of apheresis donor/patient files.

  • Performs other essential duties
  • Cleans and maintains equipment and work areas.
    Assures adequate supply and stocks inventory.
    Assists with scheduling of procedures as assigned.
