Under limited supervision, uses multi-dimensional modeling CAD software to detail complex drawings, sketches, and profiles used in the planning or construction of various physical projects or products. Works as directed to conceive of or create form and design variations for consideration.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Develops complete major layouts of engineering drawings from predetermined basic designs in a field of specialization such as electrical, mechanics or structures.
Analyzes plans for potential cost and engineering consideration.
Draws preliminary sketches of proposed product or project. Determines scaling required; inserts necessary reference planes, centering and dimension lines, hidden line interpolations and sectioning.
Prepares specifications for parts, assemblies and installations.
Recommends modifications and changes for design improvement and simplification.
TYPES OF DECISIONS:
Works on assignments that are semi-routine in nature where ability to recognize deviation from accepted practice is required.
Works independently with some occasional advice and guidance given from supervisor, designer(s) or engineer(s).
Works from sketches, models and verbal information supplied by designers and engineers to determine the most appropriate views and detail drawings to portray the technical and design information.
DECISIONS/PROBLEMS REFERRED TO SUPERVISOR:
Approval of preliminary sketches and specifications for new parts, assemblies and installations.
Non-routine and/or complex revisions to unfamiliar drawings or processes.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
High School Diploma or equivalent with three plus (3+) years of CAD drafting experience.
Must be able to add and subtract decimals and fractions, complete elementary algebraic and geometric equations and utilize measuring instruments such as calipers and scales.
The successful candidate will be a team player, who focuses on checking correctness, simplicity, and clarity of assembly and part drawings and designs.
Demonstrated proficiency with 3 dimensional modeling CAD and associated equipment. Must be able to use standard drafting and CAD drawing techniques to prepare complete sets of non-routine and complex drawings that include multiple views, cross sections, detail drawings and assembly drawings.
