This is a part time, non-benefited position scheduled for approximately 19 hours per week; generally between 8am - 2pm on varying days of the week, Monday - Friday.
The majority of the time in this position is spent driving, with some administrative duties as needed.
This class consists of semi-skilled work in transporting and supervising program participants; performing routine maintenance on division vehicles, and performing data entry on computer for scheduling and daily reports as required. The incumbent works in partnership with other employees, departments/divisions, external entities, and the public in delivering effective and innovative services. Provide holistic services to internal and external customers by seeking ways to integrate programs or services provided by other departments, divisions, and external entities.
Essential Required Tasks/Examples of Duties:

Transports senior citizens on daily trips to doctor/dentist/shopping and other senior activities according to Easy Ride schedule. Assists passengers with packages and as necessary for ingress and egress to vehicle and destination. Assists with reports and records as requested by the Senior Services Supervisor. Performs routine maintenance on vehicles before operation to include fluid level checks, tire pressure, and proper operation of turn signal lights. May perform data entry on computer for scheduling and daily reports. Serves the 60+ population and Broomfield residents who are disabled; assists by driving vehicles to meet the population’s transit needs.
Prepares a daily schedule of passengers who have requested rides through Easy Ride; confirms that passengers are planning to keep their reservation each morning via telephone; responds to voice mail messages each day. Establishes and verbally reports estimated pick-up and departure times to passengers each day. Prepares vans for use prior to each trip using mechanical checklist provided by Fleet Maintenance Division. Cleans and services vans according to agreed upon schedules at Fleet Maintenance or relevant location. Assists passengers with vehicle ingress-egress and mobility as needed -- to include wheelchair patrons, visually impaired persons and other physically handicapped passengers including those with assistive devices such as walkers and canes. Helps passengers with all handicap appliances/assistive devices and supports full weight of handicapped person when necessary. Follows established emergency procedures; checks-out and carries cellular telephone on each trip; maintains cellular telephone use log.
Provides administrative assistance by taking division paperwork to and from City offices, post office, etc.; assists with answering telephones or providing customer service when present at the office. Actively works with the public and volunteers to find ways to solve problems and meet their needs with available resources; explains details of services, methods, or policies; makes referrals to appropriate Program Coordinator regarding other client concerns or needs. Sets-up and maintains records, files and reports according to established methods or procedures for Easy Ride. Takes proper safety precautions, anticipates unsafe circumstances, and acts accordingly to prevent accidents. Uses all required safety equipment. Performs related duties as required.
Training - High school graduate or GED equivalent.
Experience - Experience driving a commercial vehicle in all types of weather conditions. Experience with providing front line customer service and with following routes and schedules. Preference will be given for experience working with the elderly and disabled population and for experience with handicap appliances/assistive devices.
Any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides evidence that the applicant possesses the Necessary Applicant Traits.
Necessary Special Requirements - Must be at least 18 years of age. Must possess and maintain a valid Commercial Driver’s license Class (A, B, or C) with a P endorsement, valid DOT physical card, and safe driving record for continued employment. Incumbent must, within three months of hire, successfully pass a certified course for CPR training and receive a certificate of completion from the American Red Cross in knowledge of first aid practices and procedures (Multi-Media standard course). Applicants must, as a condition of employment, pass the following pre-offer and post-offer/hire processes: driving skills test, oral board, reference checks, driving record check through DMV, background checks including police check and sex-offender registry check, pre-employment substance abuse screening test and background check required by DOT regulations, physical examination required to obtain a DOT physical card, driver agility test, and fingerprint checks through CBI/FBI.
