The ED Registration Specialist is a combined function for registration, switchboard and secretarial duties in the Emergency Department.
The ED Registration Specialist is responsible for accurate completion of the registration process for all ED patients including patients processed for inpatient admission or observation services. The ED Registration Specialists takes point of service payments and posts to the correct patient account. The Specialist is responsible for logging and reconciling point of service payments. The Specialist distributes patient account returned mail to other registrars for correction and posts comments and notes to the patient account.
Switchboard Duties :
The Specialist contacts physicians and departments to acquire orders and clarify information. The position is responsible for posting charges to patient accounts. The Specialist directs phone calls to appropriate areas while maintaining the strictest of confidence and patient privacy. The Specialist will make special announcements such as drills, disasters, paging of personnel and relaying messages.
Secretarial Duties :
Under supervision, assists in planning, organizing, implementing and evaluating work activities occurring in the ED nursing station by performing clerical and receptionist duties. Maintains the physical environment of the area.

The following qualifications are the minimum qualifications in order to adequately perform this job. However, any equivalent combination of experience, education and training which provides the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities would be acceptable, subject to any legal and/or regulatory requirements.
Education: Minimum of a high school diploma with Associates in related field desired.
Experience: Previous health care experience and medical coding experience preferred.
Job Knowledge: Excellent communication skills and telephone skills are required. Must have excellent computer skills. Must be able to work independently and with minimal supervision. Must be flexible in the performance of all related tasks and able to organize work with multiple tasks. Must be a team player and interact well with other employees. Must have a positive attitude and excellent customer service skills.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Eye and hand coordination, manual dexterity for computer skills and visual acuity and hearing corrected to normal required. Extended periods of sitting required, with some walking, stooping and bending. Able to lift up to 20 lbs. and reach above shoulder height. Must be able to remain focused on the task at hand and maintain composure in highly stressful situations.
