Description
The EH&S Technician inspects facility, operates and maintains a variety of EH&S equipment to ensure compliance requirements are met. They coordinate the flow, allocation, and replenishment of chemicals and materials for production and disposal/treatment activities and provide training for EH&S related courses and activities as assigned. The EH&S technician also focuses on improving quality, reducing costs, shortening lead-times, and increasing customer service levels through continuous improvement.

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Collect, deliver, prepare, and/or transfer various chemicals and materials throughout the site (including paint, oil, coolant, and various waste) and ensure customer supply needs are promptly addressed.
  • Operate various equipment as assigned (e.g. burn-off oven, forklift, tractor/loader, grinder/chipper, multi-axle truck, multi-washer, painting equipment, solvent distiller, drum press, pumps, etc).
  • Inspect various equipment and processes across the site to verify that equipment and processes are in compliance with business and regulatory requirements, and prepare inspection summary reports.
  • Perform equipment and process maintenance and support activities as assigned.
  • Complete required regulatory training; conduct training for EH&S related courses, as assigned, with new and existing employees (e.g. application of paint and powder coatings, equipment operation, chemical and waste handling, PPE requirements, respirator fit-testing, spill response, etc)
  • The employee is required to attend seminars and training occasionally.

  • Qualifications
    • Technical degree from a 2- or 4-year college, preferred with 1-2 year experience with hazardous waste, and Hazardous Materials activities; and/or a minimum of high school with 5 years job experience and/or training with paint and chemical processes is required.
    • Ability to operate personal computer and Microsoft Office products including, but not limited to, Word, Excel and Access.
    Other Skills and Abilities
    • Knowledge in the area(s) of RCRA, OSHA, DOT, and NFPA regulations.
    • Ability to operate specific equipment as assigned (e.g. burn-off oven, forklift, tractor/loader, grinder/chipper, multi-axle truck, multi-washer, painting equipment, solvent distiller, drum press, pumps, etc)
    • Strong organizational skills; ability to prioritized and balance multiple tasks.
    • Ability to produce accurate, professional and error-free documents in a timely manner.
    • Ability to read, interpret, analyze, measure, and track a variety of reports and data.
    • Ability to establish and maintain positive interpersonal relationships that encourage openness with public/customers and peers.
    • Demonstration of excellent written and oral communication skills on a timely basis.

    Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
    Annual pulmonary function testing and respirator fit testing.
    OSHA 40 hour HAZWOPER certification
    DOT Hazardous Material training certification
    (Above certifications if not currently held, required to be completed in a specified time frame)
    Commercial Drivers License (may be required depending on assigned responsibilities)
