The primary purpose of this position is : To serve as a software engineering technical specialist/advisor with the technical mastery for embedded software.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE : At least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade (GS-12) or equivalent. Specialized experience must include software engineering technical specialist/advisor with the technical mastery for embedded software. Experience must have been at a level of difficulty and complexity sufficient to demonstrate the ability to perform the duties of this position. It may have been gained in the private sector, volunteer service, military service, and/or government service, etc.

Federal Time-In-Grade (TIG): Requirement for General Schedule (GS) Positions: Applicants must have served at least 52 weeks at the GS-12 or higher grade (or equivalent in an alternate pay system) within the Federal Civil Service to be considered for referral. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
· Knowledge of electronic principles, concepts and circuitry.
· Knowledge of computer science principles, concepts, algorithmic design and software languages.
· Knowledge of aircraft avionics systems and aircraft systems software architectures.
· Knowledge of Software Engineering Environment (SEE) architectures.
· Knowledge of embedded systems, open system architectures and data bus architectures.
· Knowledge of embedded aircraft weapon system and support system software, hardware and software architectures, bus architectures, algorithmic design and circuitry.
· Knowledge of testing concepts, methods and principles for airborne avionics fault detection and recording systems.
· Knowledge of FAA, ISO, IEEE and MIL standards for avionics and software.
· Knowledge of modern software and system engineering processes and standards.
· Knowledge of safety and securi6ty regulations, practices, and procedures.
· Knowledge of organizational software engineering policies, processes and procedures.
· Knowledge of organizational software engineering mission, goals and objectives.
· Knowledge of local, Air Force and DoD policies, directives and organizational responsibilities.
· Skilled in use of software risk management techniques and problem-solving methods.
· Skilled in use of requirements management tools, software configuration management tools an software development tools.
· Skilled in application of system hardware and software engineering knowledge to understand/solve problems.
· Ability to lead, motivate and guide the functions of team.
· Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
· Ability to execute projects and studies within established resource, time and performance constraints.
· Ability to originate new ideas, projects, studies and methodologies.
· Ability to train, mentor and motivate technical personnel.
· Ability to understand guidance and exercise good judgement.
· Ability to apply lean, safety, security, and health principles, practices, and procedures and to understand and apply internal management procedures.

· This position may require the employee to travel for temporary travel (TDY) away from the normal duty station including overseas travel, in accordance with JTR, Vol. II.
· The employee must be willing and able to travel on military and commercial aircraft.
· The employee is required to work in shifts.
· The employee may be required to work overtime.
· The employee may be required to work other than normal duty hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays and may be required to work alternate shifts from normal duty hours.
· The employee may be required to work overtime on an emergency basis.
· The employee may be recalled to duty at the worksite at any hour, on any day during an actual or simulated national emergency.
· This position requires the employee to have the ability to discern colors, contrast, and depth.
· This position has been designated as an acquisition position and is covered by the Acquisition Processional Development Program (APDP).
