DUTIES: Back to top · To provide technical expertise to maintain and certify complex electronic equipment/microprocessor based medical systems.
· Provides expeditious economic repairs and periodic maintenance of sophisticated biomedical instrumentation and systems in order to provide high quality patient care and meet medical center and regulatory requirements such as JCAHO, AAAHC, FDA and CAP.
· Utilizes safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean work environment.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: Back to top SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower (GS-07)grade/pay band in the Federal Service or equivalent in other pay systems. Experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Some examples of qualifying specialized experience include: Work as a technician, instructor, inspector, or mechanic (civilian or military) that showed progression in theoretical and practical knowledge of electronic theory, and of the characteristics, function, operation, and capabilities of a variety of types of electronic equipment. This experience must have included the use of schematic diagrams, a variety of test equipment, and the application of appropriate electronic formulas involved in such duties as testing, troubleshooting, modifying, designing, calibrating, installing, maintaining, repairing, constructing, developing, and instructing on electronic equipment, or similar functions. Experience in developing policies, standards, and procedures for maintenance, installation, or similar functions, provided the work clearly shows that the applicant applied a specialized knowledge of the theories and principles of a variety of electronic systems or equipment. OR

Graduate education or an internship meets the specialized experience required only in those instances where it is directly related to the work of the position. Two full years of graduate education or a master's degree meets the requirements for GS-9.

Federal Time-In-Grade (TIG) Requirement for General Schedule (GS) Positions: Applicants must have served at least 52 weeks at the GS-07 or higher grade (or equivalent in an alternate pay system) within the Federal Civil Service to be considered for referral. The purpose of TIG restrictions is to prevent excessively rapid promotions in competitive service GS positions and to protect competitive principles.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:

1. Knowledge of and skills in applying a wide range of specialized methods, principles and techniques of electronics and complex medical system failures, recovery of systems, adjusting, modifying and improving systems to include hardware and software components.

2. Knowledge of a wide range of electronic principles and practices, operating parameters, capabilities and limitations of electronic systems associated with complex medical systems/equipment and of systems and component design, capabilities, configurations, limitations and functional operation and of various types of electronic logic.

3. Knowledge of Air Force, Department of Defense, The Joint Commission, CAP, OSHA, NFPA, NEC and FDA regulations, procedures and practices.

4. Skill in the interpretation of technical data such as drawings, schematics blueprints, and specifications of complete electronic systems; in analyzing problems in integrated/interfacing systems involving numerous complex circuits; and in using complex electronic and electromechanical test and measuring equipment using integrated test functions for different purposes.

5. Ability of modify standard procedures, adapt equipment or techniques and make departures from previous approaches to solve technical problems or improve system performance for highly complex electronic systems; to trace electronics logic from one system to another; and to establish and maintain effective working relationships to represent the organization in a professional manner.

6. Ability to use computer terminals to enter and extract data to maintain records and document actions.

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE : Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

6. May be required to work an uncommon tour of duty.
