The EMS Physician Fellow shall assist in the supervision and control of the provision of prehospital emergency medical care in the City of New York in accordance with Federal, State and regional guidelines. Perform all duties as assigned by the Division Medical Director. These duties shall include, but are not limited to, the following: the provision of on-line and off-line medical control, quality assurance, training and education, field response, clinical patient care, systems planning and analysis, prehospital care research and interagency liaison functions. Play an active role in education, training and curriculum development for medical students, emergency medicine house staff, and prehospital field providers at all levels. Participate in the development, evaluation and revision of prehospital basic and advanced life support protocols. Review, monitor and evaluate methods and quality of medical care rendered by prehospital personnel. Supervise emergency medicine residents and fellows rotating through FDNY/EMS as part of their post-graduate training program. Assist in the development and revision of FDNY policies and procedures affecting patient care. Responsible for staffing OLMC, providing Continuing Medical Education, and conducting Bureau of Training lectures as needed. Ensure performance of audits on QA/I indicators and direct medical case reviews on QA/I sentinel events. Direct and coordinate ongoing review and monitoring of ambulance destinations. Assist Risk Management with pre-litigation case reviews. Responsible for medical content of treatment protocols, standing orders and medical control options, triage algorithms, and pre-arrival first aid instructions. May function as a members, liaison and/or representative to Regional EMS Council (REMSCO), Regional Emergency Medical Advisory Committee (REMAC), NYS EMS Council (SEMSCO), NYS Emergency Medical Advisory Committee (SEMAS) and their subcommittees, NYS Trauma Demonstration Project, and NYS Medical Society.

Minimum Qual Requirements

Assignment Level II & III

Physicians Practicing General Medicine

1. Graduation from an approved school of medicine; and

2. Possession of a valid license to practice medicine in New York State; and

3. Five (5) years of full-time licensed experience as a physician practicing general

medicine acceptable to the Medical Board of the hospital.

Physicians Practicing in a Specialty Area

1. Graduation from an approved school of medicine; and

2. Possession of a valid license to practice medicine in New York State; and

3. Current Board Certification issued by the appropriate American Specialty Board; and

4. Five (5) years of full-time licensed experience as a physician practicing in her/his

field of specialty acceptable to the Medical Board of the hospital..
