Under the supervision of the EMS Director the EMS Trainer will conduct EMS-related instruction that will support and further develop the Emergency Medical Services system in the Bristol Bay Area.

Required : Current Alaska-certified EMT-2 or above; Current Alaska-certified ETT/EMT-1 Instructor; Current AHA or ARC CPR Instructor; Ability to become CPR Instructor-trainer certified within six months of employment; Ability to travel extensively; Ability to work evenings and weekends; Ability to adapt to prolonged village living conditions; Excellent interpersonal skills; Ability to work well with people of diverse cultural backgrounds; Good oral and written communication skills; Ability to occasionally lift heavy items (up to 70 pounds).

Desired : One or more years ETT/EMT teaching experience; Ability to become state certifying officer within six months of employment; Interest and ability to become a volunteer EMT with the Dillingham Volunteer Rescue Squad.

Essential Functions:
  • Provide instruction for state-approved first aid, CPR, CPR-Instructor, ETT, EMT-1, EMT-1 Refresher, and other EMS related courses in the Bristol Bay Region.

  • Assist in the development of disaster plans (including drills and training) within the Bristol Bay region and Kanakanak Hospital.

  • Coordinate EMS communications in villages having emergency response groups (first responders, SAR, ETT, EMT).

  • Assist in the development of first responder groups in Bristol Bay regional villages.

  • Interface with community agencies and services to enhance EMS awareness within Dillingham and in the villages.
