An exciting opportunity is available for an Engineering / Maintenance Manager in a successful and growing food manufacturing company. The Western Sugar Cooperative is a sugar refining/manufacturing company with over $400M in annual sales and offers longevity with a stable history and is experiencing strong growth. This position provides training, coaching and mentoring to Maintenance Managers and their team, expertise and direction toward the successful execution of plant maintenance, maintenance projects and maintenance spending, Engineering and capital projects. This position leads broad based maintenance teams to deliver projects that align with business strategies, core values [safety, quality, business ethics, and cost reduction], follow structured guidelines, company policies, and deliver the highest value asset allocation possible. Assume responsibility for the management of all aspects of the maintenance operation for this manufacturer. The Engineering & Maintenance Manager is a proactive, strategic thinker whose skills contribute to the efficient, systematic and profitable operation of the company's maintenance department. You will provide overall leadership and direction to direct reports responsible for maintenance. You will implement strategies to increase operational efficiency, planning & scheduling activities and processes improvements in the factory, maintain quality, provide and/or arrange for necessary training of maintenance staff, ensure continuous improvement, all without compromising employee safety. This manager has the proven ability to lead and grow the maintenance team. Position works in conjunction with the Production Manager, Chief Chemist, and Warehouse Manager to continuously improve efficiencies, quality, and safety.
Execute, integrate and align assigned projects in cooperation with Operations and Agriculture departments. Execute project initiatives to ensure that all projects are completed to meet business needs. Responsible to ensure that all capital projects, maintenance planning, deliverables, reporting, and spending forecasts are managed accurately and that all capital and maintenance projects are delivered within cost, schedule and performance success criteria. Support the development of an internal Maintenance team with core competencies, skills and talents that will meet both present and future growth. Provides training, coaching and mentoring to Maintenance Managers and their team. Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal policies and regulations (OHSA, EPA, USDA, and HACCP/SSOP). Responsible for the daily maintenance operations of the facility and all its components. Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal policies and regulations (OHSA, EPA, USDA, HACCP/SSOP). Maintain and improve maintenance efficiency and quality standards adherence. Recommend optimal planning & scheduling activities, repair solutions, and equipment needs. Responsible for staff adherence and process improvement. Manage maintenance personnel: Work allocation, training, and problem resolution. Evaluate employee performance and motivate to achieve peak productivity. Responsible for capital planning and plant engineering required to support improvement processes. Maintain a proactive equipment maintenance program with the application of TPM based methodologies, in particular, planning & scheduling, PM & PdM activities, autonomous maintenance, and early management / vertical start up. Forecast facility capabilities and manage annual maintenance budget. Measure and upgrade standards for all job functions and procedures. Develop team members for future growth opportunities within the company. The candidate must possess leadership, cost consciousness, organizational and communication skills along with diplomacy skills that will promote good relations with all facets of management and other diverse disciplines in the effective execution of projects to accomplish corporate objectives. Knowledge and Skill Requirements Experience as a Plant Engineer, Maintenance Manager or Maintenance Engineer in a complex food processing, CPI, or similar environment involving high wear, complex, integrated unit process system structure, distributed control, 24-7 operation with high demand for plant availability and minimal downtime. Proficiency in the optimization of maintenance systems including: TQM, CMMS, TLC, MI, PM and complex maintenance scheduling, planning and execution for optimum equipment reliability and on time plant availability. Experience in the management and utilization of PdM (predictive maintenance, i.e.; vibration analysis, IR surveys, Oil analysis, etc.) Proficiency in evaluation of machine failure, selection of maintenance materials and development of ongoing improvement of maintenance systems, practices and efficiencies. Familiar with applicable OSHA and GMP Food Safety Standards. Proven leadership abilities (vision concentric, organization design, leading change, situational leadership, alignment, company values). Familiar with food processing and its associated equipment. Excellent strategic planning expertise. Proven experience in employment law issues including union leadership. Has designed and/or implemented OSHA, HAACP, USDA programs such as GMP. Proven success with efficient maintenance activities - TPM. Strong interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written) using Microsoft Office platform and the ability to motivate and lead a diverse work force to achieve desired results. Proven history of successful creation and implementation of training programs & maintenance procedures. The ability to lead teams to constant or continuous improvement. 10. Proven fiscal responsibility (financial planning, budgeting, financial analysis, variance reporting, etc.)11. Perform formal, true root cause analysis to identify and resolve downtime and /or inefficient operational issues.12. Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Maintenance Engineering, or equivalent education and work experience in manufacturing, preferably in food manufacturing environment to support requirements.13.
