The City of Fort Worth is searching for a dynamic and effective Traffic Engineer to lead the Traffic Engineering Section and to be an integral part of making Fort Worth a leader in Traffic Management. The position oversees all traffic engineering studies, surveys, investigations, school safety program, red-light safety program, plan review and related traffic engineering activities.
The Traffic Engineer leads, plans, trains, and reviews the work of professional staff responsible for the planning, design, and contract administration of traffic related projects. The Traffic Engineer provides best practice guidance in the development and implementation of policies, procedures, goals and objectives and makes recommendations for changes and improvements to existing standards and procedures.
This position also manages and reports the performance of service quality, responsiveness, efficiency and effectiveness of traffic engineering activities. As a leader, this position works with employees on the continuous improvement of transportation, planning, engineering, construction management activities and traffic safety operations.
This position will serve as the primary contact on issues and programs related to Traffic Engineering and Safety Management and will function as the liaison for the Traffic Management Division with other divisions, departments and outside agencies.
Skills / Requirements
The following education and/or experience are the minimum standards which provide the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities for this position:
Bachelors Degree or higher from an accredited college or university with major course work in Civil Engineering or a related field PLUS five (5) years of increasingly responsible Traffic Engineering experience, including two (2) years of administrative and supervisory responsibility required. Preference may be given to higher levels of education, municipal government experience and certifications related to the vacancy.
Skills in Microsoft Office Suite and Traffic/Transportation related analysis tools (Synchro, HCS/HCM) required. Position duties also require extensive public contact, strong interpersonal leadership, and excellent communications skills. First-hand experience with Traffic engineering studies, investigations, and methodology as well as a thorough knowledge of the Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices required.
Certification as a Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE) preferred. Thorough understanding of municipal government engineering desired.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Possession of registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Texas is required. If licensed in another state, continued employment will be contingent upon obtaining registration as a Professional Engineer, within the State of Texas, within six (6) months of employment.
