Position Summary: Helps to ensure customer satisfaction by providing timely and thorough cleaning services to keep clinical unit/ area in orderly, sanitary and attractive condition. Must provide thorough and efficient cleaning services to a wide variety of areas including inpatient areas, clinical exam rooms, operating rooms, offices, conference rooms, restrooms, utility rooms and corridors. Cleans assigned areas using specified products and following established procedures. Uses interpersonal skills effectively to communicate to customers, co-workers and supervisors as appropriate. Maintains professional conduct at all times. Addresses customer concerns/ questions and channels them to others as appropriate. Provides a variety of environmental, clinical support activities to facilitate patient care and customer satisfaction. Works under the direction of the EVS supervisor and coordinates work flow with Nurse Manager or designee.

Competencies:

A. Education: High School or equivalent required.

B. Knowledge: Requires ability to read and understand English in order to follow instructions, job assignments, schedules, work orders and chemical labels. Ability to utilize and understand universal safety precautions when cleaning patient rooms.

C. Skills: Ability to read at minimum of 8th grade level, and mathematical ability of at least a 6th grade level. Ability to operate cleaning equipment including buffing machine, vacuum cleaner and carpet extractor. Must possess effective verbal communications skills and the ability to interface with patients, families, health care team members, co-worker and supervisory personnel when necessary.

Ability to identify environmental emergency/ urgent situations and to follow established protocol in reporting these situations. Highly effective interpersonal communication skills to interact with medical staff, patients, visitors and other hospital employees.
