The City of Fort Worth seeks a Mechanic II to diagnose and perform all types of maintenance and repair on City mechanical / motorized equipment; to perform record keeping activities on repairs performed; to perform the most complex and difficult repairs involving automobiles, trucks, and heavy equipment.

Skills / Requirements The following education and/or experience are the minimum standards which provide the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities for this position: High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma, GED, Certificate, with additional specialized training in automotive / heavy truck mechanical repair PLUS two (2) years experience in automotive / truck or construction equipment repair required. Knowledge of computers to extract current repair information required. Preference will be given to applicants that include applicable work experience within the past 6 years of employment history.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Possession of a valid drivers license and an acceptable driving record required. Possession of a Texas Class A or "B" Commercial Drivers License (CDL) preferred.
Possession of one National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (NIASE) Certification in automobile or heavy truck, or ability to obtain within six (6) months of employment strongly preferred.
Possession of Emergency Vehicle Technician (EVT) certification preferred.
Possession of or the ability to obtain mechanic hand tools of type and quantities sufficient to perform with efficiency all required repair duties at time of placement.
Experience using Mitchell On-Demand and other On-line Service Support Databases highly preferred.
Fire Apparatus repair/maintenance experience preferred.
Repair and maintenance shop environment; exposure to fumes, odors, gasoline, solvents, cleaners, oils, and other related liquids; exposure to inclement weather when conducting field repairs; environment includes noise and work with moving objects and vehicles.
Essential and marginal functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for sitting, standing, or walking extended periods of time; moderate to heavy lifting and carrying; frequent crouching, stooping, squatting, crawling, reaching, pushing, and pulling; adequate vision, hearing, and speech required; must be able to operate assigned equipment and vehicles.
