Job Responsibilities

Reporting to the ALI Senior Director of Academic Programs, the ALI Assistant Academic Program Director for Business for Global Practices (BGP) is responsible for teaching in, and administration of the BGP program, including responsibility for supervising classroom instruction, the program instructors and academic support staff, scheduling, budget support, proposal writing, curriculum review and revision, and new program development. Further duties include contributing to student retention, recruiting and program marketing.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Master's degree in TESOL, Applied Linguistics or a closely related field and a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Business Administration. Experience: Two years' experience working in industry or commerce. Four years' ESL teaching and administrative experience, preferably involving instructor supervision and training in a self-support university-level intensive English language program or equivalent. Fingerprint clearance results are required prior to hire

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Demonstrated excellence in ESL, business and business practices, and/or international education in a similar institute. Experience in student advisement. Membership in professional organizations. Ability to relate well to others, including peers, superiors, and those reporting to him/her, within the academic environment. Ability to impartially evaluate students and instructors, and adjudicate academic and behavioral issues. Highly motivated self-starter, with a high energy level, strong interpersonal skills, and a can-do attitude. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Knowledge and experience in curriculum development, particularly in a business program. Practical knowledge of current theories and issues in the field of ESL, business, and international education and their relationship to the program. Highly developed interpersonal skills and the ability to work with a diverse population of ESL instructors, office staff, international students, business professionals, university personnel, and other members of the CES and SDSU Research Foundation community. Well organized, detail oriented, exercises good judgment and common sense. Word-processing skills required, database management skills a plus.
