We have a potential opportunity for an experienced ESL Instructor Supervisor.
The ESL Instructor Supervisor acts as a supervisor and manager for ESL instructors and substitute for classroom instruction on an as needed basis. Provide day-to-day support to instructors to ensure success on the job; evaluates and assess performance and develops corrective actions as required by the company policy. Provide support to Dean of Academics and Training Manager on distributing information to staff, ensuring customer support and monitoring employee performance to meet company expectations. This position does not have fulltime classroom instruction responsibilities; it is a supervisory position. This position is seated in San Antonio, TX
Responsibilities:
Leads a group of ESL instructors; provides support and guidance to ensure company and customer standards are met
Meets with instructors weekly to review and approve lesson plans
Communicates common goals and act as a source of direction, training and guidance for other ESL instructors or new employees
Participate in the hiring and training of new ESL instructors
Supports all management decisions as it relates to Instructors and communicate changes to employees as required by the Dean of Academics or company representative
Makes sure that instructors understand process, policies and expectations to succeed on the job
Evaluates instructors’ performance and provide support for performance improvement
Communicates any staff concerns to management and keep company informed on progress
Demonstrates enthusiasm, support and commitment to the learning process, articulating high expectations, setting challenging targets and celebrating success.
Works collaboratively, share knowledge and understanding and accept responsibility for outcomes
Performs administrative duties as needed and as instructed by Manager
Ensures effective implementation of language training policies, classroom procedures, and training objectives in a timely manner
Manages own work load and those of the team to meet deadlines as required by the company and customer
Develops an appropriate class-specific plan of instruction that effectively integrates use of audio, video, and computer software
Ensures required course objectives are accomplished as scheduled
Promptly advises management of actual or potential problems or changes to plans
Effectively maintains an appropriate affective environment, control of voice modulation, pace of instruction, and structure and vocabulary usage consistent with students’ proficiency levels and the subject being taught
Effectively ensures inappropriate behavior is managed
Keeps supervisor informed of any actual or potential student problems in a timely manner
Ensures counseling, assessments, evaluations, and recommendations are appropriate, educationally sound, in accordance with organizational directives, and accomplished in a timely manner
Thoroughly evaluates training and testing materials for adequacy, suitability, and effectiveness
Carries out projects in an effective, professional manner
Accurately monitors and updates all student records, including counseling and testing forms
Effectively disseminates administrative information in an accurate and timely manner
Advances the Team’s instructional methodology and analyzes metrics to evaluate success in the classroom
Qualifications:
3+ years successful experience as a manager/supervisor with direct responsibility over 10+ people
5+ years experience teaching ESL
Professional knowledge of ESL/EFL principles, approaches, and methodology
Expert knowledge of the English language to include grammar, phonology, linguistic functions, etc
Mastery of ESL/EFL/ESP pedagogy and ESL/EFL program management principles
Professional knowledge of ESL/EFL assessment techniques and test/measurement principles
Knowledge of the American culture and its relationship to the English language
Ability to read, write and speak English
Active DoD government issued Secret security clearance or the ability to obtain a government issued clearance
Education: Master’s degree in one of the following disciplines: Teaching English to Speaker of Other Languages (TESOL) / Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL) / Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL); English as a Second Language (ESL) / English as a Foreign Language (EFL); Applied Linguistics (or Linguistics); OR
Undergraduate degree in ESL/EFL; English; foreign languages; AND one year of professional level experience teaching ESL/EFL to adults; OR
Any undergraduate degree AND 24 semester (or equivalent) hours of undergraduate courses equivalent to a major in one of the above stated disciplines (TESOL, TESL, TEFL, ESL, EFL, linguistics) AND one year of professional level experience teaching ESL/EFL to adults OR one year professional level experience teaching as a certified platform instructor in the US military
