To bring evidence-based practices into classrooms by working with and supporting teachers and other school leaders with the goal of increasing ELLstudent engagement, improving ELL student achievement and building teacher capacity in the Kansas City Public Schools. The person exhibits effective interpersonal skills that reflect for others an understanding of the importance of collegial interactions for promoting student learning. The person listens effectively to others, understanding both formal and informal dialogue and communicates in a manner that inspires trust, communicates respect and is nonjudgmental in nature. Performs duties related to core curriculm developent and implementation in support of English Language Learners.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Transformational Leadership

Serve as a part of the ELL leadership team to provide professional development regarding ELL Best Practices to promote academic success of the ELL students.

Collaborates with ELL and mainstream teachers to link ESL and content instruction and provide support such as coaching, observing, modeling and conferenceing.Improvement Plan as needed

Analyze instructional practices and provide meaningful and timely feedback to teachers

Plan collaboratively with teachers for the continuation, modification or specific instructional techniques, strategies or ELL approaches

Collaborates with universities , community organizations and outside vendors to provide training and professional development opportunities to assigned schools

Provides Instructional Leadership

Mentors ELL and mainstream teachers

Arrange for students who are behind to get the additional time and instruction they need to succeed through various forms of safety nets

Coach teachers on the effective delivery of research-based ELL instruction appropriate to the content area

Coach teachers in formal and informal assessment and decision making to improve instructional practice

Coach teachers in culturally responsive pedagogy

Coach teachers in classroom management

Provide support to Language Services Director in the development and revision of curriculum frameworks.

Professional Development

Identify model classrooms that incorporate all elements of effective ELL classroom instruction

Implement techniques that include modeling teaching, one-on-one coaching and facilitating group observations and critiquing to improve ELL teaching and learning

Lead Study Groups and teacher meetings focusing on instructional planning, effective lesson delivery, PLCs and analyzing student work and data analysis

Support teachers through a non-evaluative, non-judgmental coaching model that builds self-directedness and internal capacity including planning, self assessment and reflection

Attend all school/district level staff development

Data Collection and Analysis

Analyze and monitor school level data results and intervene when necessary

Analyze student work using the performance standards to ensure learning and teaching to deep levels of understanding

Organize teachers to analyze student performance data against the standards in order to focus on the school improvement plan on getting students to meet all standards as quickly as possible

Collect data and implementation evidence for the school portfolio which should be shared with school and district level leadership

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Master's Degree in Education (Communication Arts ) from a four-year college or university

Valid Missouri TESOL endorsement

Minimum of 5 years ELL classroom teaching experience in an accredited public school district

Demonstrated experience and/or training in current ELL techniques and skills in teaching students.

Valid Missouri teaching certificate

Content-specific knowledge of Show Me Standards and common core documents including Grade Level Expectations and Course Level Expectations and other content specific standards documents articulated by Missouri’s Department of Elementary and Secondary Education

Knowledge of adult learning theory and sound professional development practices as identified by Learning Forward

Knowledge in Standards-Based Curriculum Alignment and in Instructional Methodologies

Skill in Training/ Development and in Planning/ Organization

Skill in Word Processing and Database/Spreadsheets
