Coordinate placement testing for ESL students using COMPASS (or other approved language test) and assist with advising students regarding their placement, registration, advancement and completion of the IEP program. Coordinate the development and maintenance of final / exit exam standards for ESL courses. Coordinate and Supervise the official iBT (TOEFL) testing program.
Advise and register new students of their placement in the Intensive English Program based on proficiency test results
Advise and register continuing students of their progress, advancement and program completion
Administer the COMPASS test and its use for placement, surveys, and student data
Coordinate the development and maintenance of a test bank for ESL courses to be used for final/exit exams
Collaborate with lecturers and faculty regarding final / exit exams to maintain consistent exam standards among instructors for each course
Coordinate student proficiency reports and data collection
Coordinate the development and implementation of EMU serving as a TOEFL and / or IELTS official testing site
Document the review of assessment procedures according to accreditation regulations.
Teach one or more ESL classes during the fall and winter semesters, as workload permits, as determined by the ESL Director
Perform related Program duties, as required.
Completion of a Master’s degree in TESOL or a closely related field is required.
Three years IEP and / or EAP ESL teaching experience is required.
Experience in IEP and / or EAP ESL policies and procedures.
Experience with ESL student advising/counseling.
Cross-cultural communication skills and ability to communicate using modified English are necessary.
Knowledge of U.S. immigration (SEVIS) regulations for F-1 and J-1 visa-holding students.
Overseas teaching experience is desirable.
Experience learning another world language.
Additional qualifications specific to area of assignment may be desirable.
