Works with minimal supervision providing SQL development solutions including ETL programming, performance tuning, data modeling, design, development, and documentation based on BCBSAZ corporate policies, industry best practices, and customer based business requirements.
Required Education and Experience:
Any combination of experience and education equivalent to a Bachelor¿s degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Science, Management Information Systems and Database Development or equivalent.
Minimum 5 years of working experience as a ETL database developer using SQL Server (version 2000 through 2008 R2) is required.
Experience with SSIS, DTS, TSQL, stored procedure development, tuning, enterprise data modeling and schema change management is required.
Experience with other relational technologies that supplement the RDBMS tool sets (e.g. SSAS, Business Objects, Red Gate, Idera SQL Diagnostics, Visual Studio Database Projects, etc.) is also preferred.
Experience with Informatica Power Center and/or Profisee Maestro is preferred.
Possession of current Microsoft SQL Server certifications preferred.
Knowledge and Abilities:
Knowledge of business intelligence database development best practices and the application of corporate policies and procedures through business intelligence database development experience and/or certification. Health care transaction knowledge; understanding of the internal BCBSAZ business intelligence environment and how to translate information management needs into Business Intelligence solutions. Knowledge of analysis and design techniques for business intelligence databases, SQL Server 2005, server applications, and reporting systems. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Ability to prepare written proposals and deliver presentations. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others both within the corporation and externally. Knowledge of project management. Knowledge of flow charting and spreadsheet software; knowledge of office software: i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint; knowledge in data mapping and of data mapping techniques and concepts; knowledge of operating systems, server security, monitoring database capacity, utilization, and replication.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
¿ Stays current on new developments in technology related industries
¿ Participates in developing ETL processes based upon the BCBSAZ strategic technical strategy
¿ Able to plan and implement projects using sound project management methodology
Business Intelligence Data Base Development :
¿ Design, develop, maintain and enhance business intelligence solutions - including enterprise-level databases, data-marts, and data warehouses
¿ Design & Implement Extract, Transform, and Load (ETL) solutions including SSIS & DTS programming based on BCBSAZ SQL database design and implementation standards
¿ Write relational and multidimensional SQL database queries
¿ Apply data mining rules
¿ Aggregate data from multiple sources
¿ Cleans and maintains databases by developing automated procedures to remove old data
¿ Writes code for database access, modifications, and constructions including stored procedures
¿ Monitors ongoing projects with status reports to management
¿ Learn area¿s direct flow; and how it affects surrounding systems and operational areas
¿ Documentation of database applications, server applications, and security policies/procedures, programs, systems, manuals, etc.
¿ Designs, implements, and tunes database schemas
¿ Design complex systems, including interfaces, and data mapping
¿ Develop system flows for complex systems, including interfaces, and metadata.
¿ Develop hardware and software requirements
¿ Develop time estimates and project schedules based on prioritization and business requirements
¿ Represent area in internal meetings
¿ Writes or modifies procedures for internal use, user operational areas, and computer operations, as applicable
¿ Complies with BCBSAZ Computer Responsibility Agreement. Employees with internet access are required to comply with the Internet Policies Agreement
¿ Applies appropriate security and privacy measures to all tasks
¿ Applies information security policies, principles and practices in the delivery of all IT services
EXCEPTIONALLY SERIOUS IMPACT on computer security of a Major Application or General Support System. Positions could include those in which the incumbent is responsible for the planning, direction, and implementation of a computer security program; has a major responsibility for the direction, planning, and design of a computer system, including the hardware and software; or can access a system during the operation or maintenance stages, with relatively high risk for causing grave damage or realizing significant personal gain.
¿ Works under minimal supervision of the Manager of Decisions Support and Analytical Services
¿ Coordinates business intelligence database infrastructure and administration requirements with Database Infrastructure Lead and Enterprise Architecture team
¿ Works with business intelligence analysts, IT staff, internal users and management
¿ Works to participate and collaborate with project requirements, time frames, and testing, with Business Intelligence Analysts, Production Database Administrators, Server Services Manager, Data Governance Committees and interfacing department Managers.
