The Early Childhood Support Coordinator is charged with fostering an early childhood community that is committed to strong character and a positive learning environment. The EC Support Coordinator is responsible for creating and implementing the internal systems necessary to monitor and reward social development. Through language, actions and decisions, the Coordinator should demonstrate the belief that all students can learn at a high level and maintain an unwavering focus on results. Campus leadership team roles are twelve-month positions and lead development, refinement, and implementation of all aspects of the school’s academic and culture programs in accordance with the DC Prep Way. Leaders are on duty during regular school hours as well as nights and weekends to handle parent communication, staff after school activities, and/or to complete administrative work. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis.

Responsibilities:

Character and Discipline

• Oversee implementation of early childhood social skills, character, discipline and school culture initiatives
• Serve as the primary point person for all early childhood student discipline issues
• Advertise, manage and execute developmentally appropriate incentives for early childhood students on a regular basis
• Coach early childhood teachers to improve their instructional practices especially as it relates to issues of discipline and school culture
• Support early childhood staff, students and families to maintain at least 92% attendance, punctuality and uniform
• Keep extremely accurate student discipline and intervention records including the documentation of all parent/guardian conferences, intervention plans, suspensions and phone calls for behavior
• Be highly present and visible during school hours relentlessly ensuring a positive school environment
• Model the school’s core values and set the standard for professional behavior
• Collaborate with other members of the school’s leadership team to create and sustain programs for students and families that recognize and celebrate achievement and continuous progress

Wrap-Around Services

• Identify, plan, and implement strategies to address barriers to learning including, attendance concerns, behavior issues and social adjustment
• Support the Student Support Team (SST) process with the principal and other members of the instructional staff
• Attend Grade Level Team meetings and provide support to teachers on disciplinary issues, attendance or other home-life issues that are impacting student development
• Coordinate with School Counselor and Special Education Coordinator for support and behavior intervention plans
• Develop and coordinate collaborative partnerships with outside organizations

Family Engagement

• Assist in the orientation of new and returning parents before the start of the school year to emphasize the responsibilities of parents, teachers, and students
• Communicate regularly with parents via phone, email and meetings regarding social skills achievements, discipline, and other matters
• Participate in recruitment, registration, and re-enrollment activities
• Actively encourage parents to participate in school activities such as parent conferences, literacy and math nights, field trips, and as classroom helpers.

Administrative Duties

• Monitor and support consistent entry of Prep Skill data into DC Prep’s LUMOS data system
• Support the professional development plans of colleagues, including sharing expertise
• Participate in working groups of staff and teachers to plan, problem solve, and support one another on an ongoing basis
• Participate in and deliver professional development and training on issues related to student support services
• Attend and participate in staff and other school activities and meetings as appropriate
• Liaise with Home Office staff in carrying out organizational goals as necessary
• Other appropriate tasks as needed

Qualifications:

EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND AND WORK EXPERIENCE

• Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in an urban early childhood school community
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution required

• Positive attitude and maturity sufficient for a demanding position and longer school days
