Develops and maintains records and implements guidelines for area as well as maintains the overall quality of the classroom under the supervision of the Lead Teacher, Site Supervisor or Center Operations Specialist. Assists in providing a stimulating and comprehensive learning environment for infants and toddlers or Head Start children (three to five-year-old) and performs all responsibilities in the Lead Teacher's absence. Assures all State Licensing Guidelines and Performance standards are followed.

Job Duties:
Directly responsible as primary care giver for four (4) infant/toddlers in group care (Early Head Start only). Works as a team member with other Faculty and Volunteers. Develops lesson plans and assures plans and guidelines are followed in accordance with applicable guidelines. Assist with implementation of performance standards, program assessments, local written plans and all other standards related to program operations. Works closely with the other Faculty in all aspects of the program such as lesson plans, Individual Education Plans for Disabilities (IEP), Individual Family Service Plans (IFSP), Individual Learning Plans (ILP), home visits, parent meetings, classroom maintenance, and enrolling students, etc. Manages each assigned child's individualized assessments, weekly lesson plans, and weekly objectives in order to meet the child's developmental needs. Completes Lead Teacher or Teacher's responsibilities in absence of the Lead Teacher or Teacher. Works with children with disabilities and/or children whose developmental age or stage may be delayed, i.e., toileting, changing diapers or pull-ups. Plans and conducts a minimum of two parent/teacher conferences and two home visits per year. Encourages parental involvement and achieves and maintains good parent and teacher relationships. Maintains communication with parents and staff in both written and verbal form. Conducts and oversees activities for children according to the daily schedule and lesson plans ensuring the children are productively occupied at all times. Interacts with the children based upon knowledge of the appropriate behavior for the specific age of the children in care and facilitates appropriate interaction among children using positive disciplinary techniques. Works with children without recourse to physical punishment, mistreatment or child abuse. Must report all suspected child abuse/neglect. Assists in maintaining a clean/orderly and sanitized classroom by cleaning and sanitizing classroom daily according to approved schedule and guidelines. Strives to maintain 85% Center attendance for students and reports reasons for non-compliance, absences, or tardiness according to procedure. Maintains 100% Center enrollment by replacing children who drop with another enrollee immediately. Maintains reports, forms, and records in required manner and duties as requested by the Lead Teacher, Site Supervisor or Center Operations Specialist. Assures the completion of all documentation required of each classroom/center and that Center records and forms are completed and updated within specified time frames. Maintains confidentiality in all program matters. Maintains confidentiality concerning Center staff, families and children. Attends all pre-service, in-service, and other workshops including overnight and out-of-town stays as assigned. Maintains required licensing requirements and applicable guidelines and assures they are implemented. Pursues courses related to child development provided by Cherokee Nation and other agencies. Works to obtain a Preschool Child Development Associate (CDA). Adheres to the Cherokee Nation Early Childhood Unit and Cherokee Nation Policies and Procedures; including the Early Childhood Unit Attendance Policy, and the Cherokee Nation smoke Free Policy at all locations and in program vehicles. Other duties may be assigned.

High school education; or general education degree (GED).

An additional six months related experience is required.

Must possess a valid driver's license with a driving history verified through a motor vehicle report that meets requirements for Cherokee Nation underwriting rating. Must obtain within first month of employment a physical and TB test and maintain annually thereafter. Must obtain with a Commercial Chauffer's license along with taking the course and obtaining the bus driver certification for those centers that require driving a bus. Must possess or obtain within one year a Child Development Associate Credential (CDA) for Infants and Toddler Care givers or Pre-school (CDA) if in Head Start, Food Handlers' Card, CPR and First Aid Certification, Medication Administration Training (MAT), Blood Borne Pathogens, Fire Extinguisher Safety and Child Protection training.

Must meet and maintain pre-employment and periodic background investigation and adjudication for child care.

Performance Standard 1304.52 (B)(3) current & former Early Head Start and Head Start parents must receive preference for which they are qualified.

Work Hours: 7:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. / hours vary
