In the role of Ecommerce DevOps Architect, this person will be responsible for:
  • Site uptime for one of the largest eCommerce websites in the world
  • Provisioning, configuring, and maintaining a complex web application platform ( eCommerce platform, Search, Content Management, Web Server, Reverse Proxy )
  • Work closely with development teams and application architects to design/develop operational aspects of the production application.
  • Defining and delivering robust monitoring solutions for all key business transactions, application processes, middleware, and infrastructure
  • Design and develop scripts to configure and manage a large web infrastructure.
  • Defining, measuring, and meeting key operational metrics including site performance, incidents and chronic problems, site traffic and conversion, etc.
  • Analyzing incidents, performance, and trends to proactively identify and resolve potential site issues before they develop.
  • Acting as a subject matter expert for troubleshooting and resolving complex, multi-tier web problems that span a number of different platforms.

    This is a highly technical role. This person should possess a wide breadth of web operations knowledge and be capable of leading technical operations teams.

    The Architect is responsible for the design, implementation and lifecycle management of technology architectures and application architectures that support one or more application systems. The Architect is responsible for identifying and implementing technology and application solution designs and delivering sustainable, cost-effective business applications based on industry and business research. This position is also responsible for implementation and oversight of sustaining technology governance processes and associated teaching and mentoring of Business and IT Associates in proper use of the technology and application base.

    Lead design, development, and deployment of technical and application solutions to meet business requirements that are cost effective and sustainable. Deliver conceptual, logical, and physical solution specifications.

    Translate business requirements using complex methods and models to determine appropriate system solutions.

    Provide input into annual budget planning for technology migrations and project cost estimation.

    Research, identify, test, certify, and select technology products required for solution delivery.

    Establish and implement technology migration strategies for a specific application or architecture within an IT portfolio.

    Lead technology review meetings and ensure appropriate governance processes are followed.

    Typically reports to Senior Architect, Senior Manager, or Director

    No associates report to this role on a permanent basis, but requires the leadership of a work group: assign and review work, train and contribute to performance appraisal (but not hiring, firing or disciplinary action).

    Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.
    Typically requires overnight travel less than 10% of the time.


    Must be eighteen years of age or older.
    Must pass the Drug Test.
    Must successfully complete any required training or orientation courses

    The knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a bachelor's degree program or equivalent degree in a field of study related to the job.


    Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about. On rare occasions there may be a need to move or lift light articles.

  • Extensive experience operating a large scale, 24x7 website running on multiple platforms.
  • Experience with Nginx, Varnish, Apache Traffic Server Reverse Proxies.
  • Experience with Endeca, WebSphere Commerce, ATG Commerce platforms
  • Experience with provisioning/deployment tools such as chef, puppet etc...
  • Strong communication and leadership skills to handle high-stress situations that require quick thinking and teamwork
  • eCommerce and Retail experience preferred
  • Public cloud infrastructure management experience is a plus
  • 7+ years of Large Scale Web Operations Experience
  • BS Computer Science or related field

    Expert technical proficiency in one or more of the following: Retail applications, Windows platform, UNIX platforms, MVS COBOL, JAVA, J2EE, Relational Databases, Websphere Application Server, Websphere Commerce, Websphere MQ, Networking (Voice, LAN, WAN), SAP, Siebel, Peoplesoft.

    Comprehensive understanding of systems, applications, and/or networks so that practical solutions can be provided that factor system performance, usability, quality, cross-system interdependencies, scalability, and overall cost to develop and maintain.

    Strong problem solving and analytical skills.

    Strong oral and written communications skills.
