Economic Development Officer

The Town of Westwood is seeking a creative economic development professional to lead its economic development initiatives. This individual will advocate for economic development in Westwood, actively cultivating partnerships within and outside the community to develop and promote opportunities. The successful candidate will work with a team of professionals to coordinate licensing and permitting programs, commercial revitalization projects, and incentive programs like DIFs and TIFs. The Economic Development Officer will maintain visibility in the community; provide technical assistance to the Westwood Economic Development Advisory Board; coordinate with boards, committees, community organizations and the Chamber of Commerce; and be responsible for implementation of economic and community development plans, programs and services.

Duties include but not limited to: Directing economic development initiatives to achieve the goals and objectives of short and long term economic and community development plans; gathering information and preparing studies, reports, and recommendations; responding to requests for information for economic development purposes, and the coordination with other departments and agencies as needed. Providing professional economic development advice, assisting in the application and permitting process, and serving as an advocate for economic development in line with the Comprehensive Plan, zoning ordinances, permitting requirements and goals as established by the Town. Making presentations to supervisors, boards, commissions, civic groups, businesses, individuals and the general public on economic development issues, programs, services and plans is required. Being familiar with the existing inventory of available buildings and business development sites within the community. Attending evening meetings.

Salary and Benefits: Full time, benefit- eligible position. Salary range $63,002 - $78,682.

Qualifications: B.A. (Masters preferred) in Business Administration, Public Relations, Planning or related field; four years of increasingly responsible experience in the administration of economic development, redevelopment and/or land use planning programs with at least two years of responsible project management experience. Working knowledge of municipal zoning and infrastructure, planning programs and processes, and state incentive programs. Ability to analyze economic studies, financial statements, marketing studies, plans, specs and bid documents. Demonstrated ability to speak and write clearly and concisely, and effectively work with Town employees and representatives of outside agencies, businesses and the community.
