Under the direction of the deputy editor, the editorial assistant (EA) will facilitate the production and editing of Boston College Magazine and its web offerings. With respect to the magazine, the EA will be responsible for fact checking, copyediting, and proofreading, preparation of manuscript for layout, housekeeping correspondence with publishers and writers, and some short-article reporting/writing. Similarly, with respect to online content, the EA will prepare existing magazine materials as well as new material for the web. This will include elementary formatting, coordinating with web designers, writers, and editors, fact checking, proofing, copyediting, and some compilation and writing of brief web features. In fulfilling these and other duties as assigned, the EA will be expected to demonstrate proficiency at teamwork, problem solving, communication, applying technology, valuing diversity, developing a big-picture perspective, and maintaining competency, productivity, and openness to change.
* Bachelor's degree, one to four years of professional experience or comparable involvement in publishing endeavors.
* Proven ability to write journalistically and to conduct research.
