The Editorial Assistant position is ideal for a detail-oriented and organized individual with little or no publishing experience. This role provides an excellent introduction to the publishing industry, where one can acquire in-depth knowledge of and perspective on Cengage’s operations, systems, policies and procedures, interdepartmental relationships, and the industry as a whole. EAs are also encouraged to develop, hone, and refine their multitasking, project management, data management, and communication skills.
The Editorial Assistant for the New Perspectives Series supports a publishing team of 2 editors and 3 product managers . The position requires strong organizational and communication skills, and the ability to prioritize tasks. The individual selected will ideally have one year of administrative experience.
Direct, manage, compile, route, and fill-out all necessary paperwork in support of team/list, including :
Legal documents (contracts, termination agreements, assignment agreements, addendum, amendments, etc.)
Check Requisitions, Invoices, and Purchase Orders (while providing supporting documentation)
Maintaining and managing department resources, including:
Hardcopy and digital files
Author contact data
Manage review projects for team members. Responsibilities include:
Locating, contacting, and commissioning qualified reviewers
Maintaining reviewer relationships and monitoring review progress
Organizing and distributing review materials
Ensuring prompt payment of honoraria
Tracking honoraria budget
Additional responsibilities are to:
Maintain clear and concise interdepartmental communication
Serve as point of contact for authors
Serve as point of contact for in-house sales representatives
Organize and coordinate meetings and conference calls
Copy, file, fax, mail, and provide administrative support as needed
Additional projects and duties as assigned
B.A. or B.S. degree required.
Strong writing, communication, multitasking, interpersonal, and organizational skills with an emphasis on attention to detail, flexibility, taking initiative, teamwork and collaboration.
Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint are required.
