Abrons Arts Center

              Position Description: Henry Street Settlement's Abrons Arts Center promotes the creation and presentation of innovative, multi-disciplinary work; cultivates artists in all stages of their creative development through training and educational programs, internships, residencies and commissions; and serves as an intersection of engagement between local, national and international audiences and arts-workers.

              We seek an Education Associate for Music to work with our arts training programs, teaching residencies in NYC public schools and public engagement activities. The ideal person is an arts professional with passion for a range of contemporary artistic practices and experience with music education. The Associate must enjoy working collaboratively in a dynamic and organizationally complex institution. The position reports to the Director of Education and works in a five-person, full-time, education department. Our educational programs currently serve about 3,000 people a year.

              • Bachelor's degree required; BA or BFA in music or music education field preferred
              • Five (5) year experience with arts education issues and practices including: curriculum design, the supervision of teaching artists, knowledge of family and community involvement in arts education programs, the use of technology in the service of arts education, program evaluation and assessment
              • Professional experience with contemporary trends in pedagogical practices and arts education theory, including both sequential and process-based learning
              • Strong communication skills, both interpersonal and writing
              • Knowledge of financial management
              • Manage the department music classes, including curriculum design, recruitment, supervision of teaching artists, program evaluation and scheduling
              • Manage music recitals and ensembles
              • Collaborate with other education staff on the day-to-day administration of the Education Department, including payroll and class registration
              • Collaborate in crafting grant applications
              • Remain current with trends in contemporary artistic and pedagogical practices
              • Other related tasks as assigned
