Presently, we are seeking an experienced, talented and dynamic Education Business Development Consultant to perform a part-time role in helping to drive new business opportunities in the education space, in order to broaden our distribution footprint in schools and generate substantial revenue for the organization. The ideal candidate for this position will have deep experience in education-related business development, strategic and creative thinking skills, a collaborative work style and a strong track record of prospecting and closing new business. We are looking for considerable familiarity with the evolving Education ecosystem, including edtech startups & large enterprise, either in business development or investing, an intimate familiarity with key players, and how they are playing a role in the integration of technology into the classroom. The ability to work across multiple functional areas and management levels is critical: you must be comfortable and effective dealing with senior executives as well as product managers and editors. We have significant deal pipeline; this position must thrive in visualizing opportunities and closing deals.
The Education Business Development Consultant will report to the Vice President of Business Development, and ideally be based in San Francisco. Some travel will be required.
Research, cultivate, structure, negotiate, and close new business partnerships with leading companies in order to monetize and increase distribution of Common Sense Media Education content
Understand the key business drivers for our potential partners, and develop solutions leveraging our expertise and content
Prioritize opportunities to maximize revenue while minimizing internal resource burden
Manage projects from start to finish, including pitch, proposal, negotiation, contract, close, and hand-off
Establish industry communications pipeline: attend conferences, seminars, in-person meetings
Engage internal stakeholders for brainstorming ideas, to strengthen engagement and drive new revenue opportunities
Provide leadership to the organization regarding competing services and new opportunities; help develop product offerings that align our strategic interests with those of current/potential partners
Contribute to business development strategy, including identifying emerging opportunities, defining our value proposition, determining pricing and other sources of value
WHAT WE NEED TO SEE ON YOUR RESUME
Experience with edtech startups, either in business development or investing – and an intimate familiarity with the players and business models
7+ years relevant experience, including sales, business development, channel marketing and/or project management
BA required, MBA or JD preferred
Knowledge and passion regarding media landscape, including distribution and business models
Proven chops as an organized, entrepreneurial self-starter – someone who swiftly identifies what needs to get done, then is eager to make it happen
A strong track record of building relationships and closing deals – we’ll ask for examples
Strong presentation skills, including developing PowerPoint materials and delivering those presentations to senior executives.
