Position Opening: Associate Dean, Library and Information Access. Start date June 1, 2013; negotiable.
San Diego State University is seeking applications and nominations for the position of Associate Dean, Library and Information Access, to provide leadership and shape dynamic, multifaceted services in support of the campus academic enterprise, including curriculum development and support, user interface development, research services, and evaluation of the outcomes and quality of library services. The AD reports to the Dean and is a member of the Library's management team, collaborating closely with the Library's other managers to develop and deliver innovative and excellent services and resources in support of campus goals and priorities.
The responsibilities and functions of the Associate Dean are likely to evolve significantly over the course of the next years as the Library restructures for the changing needs of the SDSU community. The AD position works closely with the Dean to lead the Library’s strategic planning efforts and coordinate proposals for grants. This position oversees library instruction and information literacy, outreach, collection development and management, including the library liaison program, and research support. This position works closely with library faculty and academic departments to establish a vision for assessing and developing electronic and print resources to support the teaching and research aspirations of the University.
The successful candidate will have an ALA accredited master’s degree or equivalent international degree; a minimum of five years of progressively responsible management and supervisory experience in an academic or research library or comparable experience; will have demonstrated ability to plan, manage, and oversee complex projects in a team environment, meet deadlines, and prioritize work in alignment with the goals of the university and department; experience managing, analyzing, and realigning library collections allocations with institutional priorities; demonstrated ability to engage librarians and staff in the collaborative planning and delivery of user-centered services; and ability to manage in a collective bargaining environment. The candidate will have a commitment to building strong relationships between the library and academic departments, and to using library resources to create vibrant opportunities for student and faculty engagement; demonstrated experience with program evaluation; knowledge of and demonstrated experience integrating information technologies in teaching/learning and research environments; a grasp of current issues and trends in academic libraries; the ability to work successfully with students, faculty, and the research community in a culturally diverse setting; and a record of relevant scholarly and professional activities. This is a full-time, twelve-month management position. Excellent benefits package, including 24 days of annual leave.
