Eugene o The University of Oregon Museum of Natural and Cultural History invites applications for a full-time Education Coordinator (Education Program Assistant 1). This position works a flexible schedule according to program events, including evening and weekend work.
o This is a classified position represented by SEIU local 503, Oregon Public Employees Union.
o University of Oregon positions that are at least half-time are eligible for excellent benefits, including health and dental, employer-paid retirement, and tuition benefits for employee or an eligible dependent, sick and vacation leave.
o Due to budgetary shortfalls, the person appointed to this position may be required to take unpaid furlough days between date of hire and June 30, 2013.

TO QUALIFY YOU MUST HAVE: ... high school diploma or equivalent and at least two years of relevant experience (paid or volunteer), supporting community programs that serve children, youth, or adults; OR associate degree and one year of work experience (paid or volunteer) which must be working in youth development programs, adult education, teaching, program delivery, or related functions.
... demonstrated oral and written communication skills; demonstrated skill to work with diverse audiences; demonstrated skill to use computers for word processing, data management, and communications.

In addition, this position requires experience teaching or making public presentations for classrooms, museums, interpretive centers, or similar facilities, or related coursework.

Preference for candidates with bachelor's or master's degree and or coursework in education, natural history, anthropology, museums, or related areas; experience working with volunteers.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: This position develops and implements educational programs and coordinates community and campus groups who utilize the museum as an educational resource and provides support for other educational programs. Duties include:
... coordinating school group (K - 12) and community tour visits to the museum; designing, implementing, and evaluating school programs and community tours; communicating verbally, by e-mail, and in writing with educators and activity directors to develop and schedule museum visits; maintaining master tour calendar; training, scheduling, supervising, and evaluating volunteers and UO students who lead school groups; maintaining statistics on groups and tracking scholarship funds; developing teacher resources; designing, implementing, and coordinating ongoing exhibit training sessions.
... teaching children's educational programs and participating in outreach efforts; coordinating program registration and maintaining records; serving as primary instructor for after school clubs and summer camps and assisting in planning activities and lessons; supervising students and community volunteers who assist in these programs.
... recruiting, training, scheduling, and evaluating volunteers; collaborating with Visitor Services department staff to schedule and coordinate volunteer recruitment events and training sessions; ensuring that there is a trained volunteer pool from which to schedule exhibit hall interpreters; supervising UO student employees who serve as exhibit hall interpreters and K-12 leaders.
