Under limited supervision and aligned with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), provides professional learning on and support for positive behavior supports at a system-wide, targeted group, and intensive individual level in order to improve the performance of students with disabilities or students who are at high risk for school difficulties with behaviors that impede their learning or that of others. Duties include, but are not limited to, collaborating with the Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE) team by building professional learning structures, leading strategic planning activities including presentation materials and mechanisms, for ongoing support and coaching during implementation; designing and implementing evaluation procedures to gauge the success of implementation and to make mid-course adjustments to adult learner initiatives; designing and implementing summative evaluation procedures that document the impact of systems change, targeted group change, and intensive individual change initiatives on adult practices and the performance/achievement of students; and working collaboratively with other internal and external partners including Regional Educational Service Agencies (RESAs), the Georgia Network for Educational and Therapeutic support (GNETS), other state agencies, other GaDOE divisions and offices, the Georgia Learning Resources System (GLRS), and colleges/universities.
Master’s degree in education, education administration, special education, school psychology or a related field and a minimum of three (3) years of experience in an leadership role at the K-12 school, local school system, or state level in the special education field or with responsibility for special education programs. Must have expertise in special education and a working knowledge of current research on positive behavior supports and special education. Must hold Georgia Professional Standards Commission (GaPSC) professional educator certification. Note : Must submit a copy of GaPSC certification with resume and cover letter or with application; applicants who fail to submit this required documentation will not be considered.
Preference will be given to applicants who, in addition to meeting the minimum qualifications, possess one or more of the following:
• Successful experience with leading or assisting schools to develop positive behavior supports, functional behavior assessment, data-based decision making supported by high-quality professional learning experiences that are job-embedded and focused on impacting student achievement and behavior change
• Experience with training and supporting professional staff
• Experience in designing and/or implementing professional learning initiatives that resulted in adults improving their practices and students exhibiting growth in academic performance
• Education Specialist or Doctorate degree
Pay grade 18 – Annual salary range $47,280.21 (minimum) to $82,962.30 (maximum). Hiring salary is commensurate with current employment, relevant education/training, work experience, salary history, and available funding.
