Advertised Summary Job Description

The Columbia Center for New Media Teaching and Learning (CCNMTL) seeks an Educational Technologist. The Educational Technologist will assist instructors, through the purposeful use of technology and new media, in advancing the educational goals of the curriculum. Furthermore, the Educational Technologist will support the planning and development of educational projects defined by faculty or school partners. Reporting to an Associate Director of CCNMTL, responsibilities include: - Assists in providing support to instructors in the creation and implementation of course websites, using course management systems, and online resources such as wikis, blogs, and media platforms. Assistance is provided in person and online. - Assists in defining the scope of small projects and basic services. Produces instructional materials and documentation for using technologies and platforms, including managing and extending the existing knowledge base. - Designs and delivers workshops for instructors on a variety of online tools and media services. - Stays abreast of emerging educational technologies and evolving standards in educational practice and design. Identifies and tests new software in the field. Write reviews and summaries of new products and best practices. - Conducts outreach and recruits faculty from assigned departments. Minimum Qualifications for Grade Applicant MUST meet these minimum qualifications to be considered an applicant

Bachelor's Degree and 2-4 years of related experience (or equivalent combination of education and experience).

Additional Position-Specific Minimum Qualifications Applicant MUST meet these minimum qualifications to be considered an applicant

Interest in the field of teaching and learning and in using technical expertise to solve educational challenges. Experience using Macs and Windows machines. Knowledge of Sakai and other learning management systems. Knowledge of instructional software tools. Ability to develop web content, specifically proficiency with HTML and CSS and an understanding of basic Javascript. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Excellent presentation skills with teaching experience. Awareness of pedagogical concepts and instructional technology issues

Preferred Qualifications

Familiarity with a Unix environment. Familiarity with programming concepts and techniques. Familiarity with research tools. Ability to perform data analysis.
