Performs difficult skilled work in the installation, calibration, and maintenance of electric metering components; does related work as required. Work is performed under the regular supervision of the Electric Meter Supervisor.
Essential Job Functions*:
Must be physically able to insert and remove meters and associated equipment at minimum elevations of five to seven feet from ground level; Ability to lift and carry meters, associated equipment and office supplies that exceed fifty pounds in weight; Ability to work (standing) from an aerial lift truck or ladder for extended periods of time; Ability to walk in rough, muddy and/or snow/ice covered terrain, for required distances, to reach work site; Ability to receive and transmit information using a two-way radio; Ability to communicate via telephone with other employees and the general public; Ability to operate a 3/4 ton motor vehicle in fair and inclement weather; Ability to sit for extended periods of time in office and/or motor vehicle. Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels. Visual acuity is required for peripheral vision, preparing and analyzing written computer data, use of measuring devices, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities. Worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, extreme cold, extreme heat, and hazards.
Performs assembly, installation and removal of self-contained and transformer rated electric meters and associated components; Investigates customer complaints; Maintains and repairs meters, equipment and instruments; Performs transformer metering system installations; Performs testing and calibration of meters and associated components to ensure accuracy and correct voltage; Performs field testing of instrument transformers at customer location under energized conditions without interruption of service; Maintains meter and instrument records of location and calibration; Prepares monthly, fiscal year, and calendar year inventory reports for meters and meter enclosures; Performs on-call duty on a rotation basis; Reports to work on assigned duty schedule; Performs other reasonable duties as assigned.
Issuance of meter enclosures to electrical contractors; Performs various duties needed to assist in power restoration due to unscheduled outages; Performs connections and disconnections of electric services.

Thorough knowledge of the principles and techniques of electric utility meter equipment installation and maintenance; Thorough knowledge of occupational hazards and necessary safety precautions; General knowledge of electrical theory and mathematical principles; General knowledge of utility/section operations; Ability to perform complex calculations; Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing with the general public and other employees; Ability to operate a micro computer and mainframe computer terminal; Ability to train and supervise subordinate employees.
Education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and considerable experience in electrical utility metering equipment, installation and maintenance.
Special License and Certificates:
Possession of a valid drivers license.
