Performs intermediate skilled work maintaining electrical right-of-ways in streets, parks and cemeteries by cutting, pruning, cabling, shaping and treating trees, bushes and undergrowth; does related work as required. Work is performed under the regular supervision of the Crew Supervisor.
Essential Job Functions*:
Must be physically able to climb trees with or without hooks and gaffers and work at considerable heights above the ground for extended periods. Must be physically able to work outside under varying climatic conditions and be able to perform moderate to heavy lifting up to 75 lbs. Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels. Visual acuity is required for depth perception, peripheral vision, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities. Worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, extreme cold, extreme heat, vibration, hazards, and confined spaces.
Trims, removes, fells and prunes trees, shrubs, bushes, brush and obstructions from electric utility rights-of-way; Climbs trees using various hooks, ropes and ladders; Does necessary trimming to eliminate hazards and electrical interference and to preserve the beauty and health of trees on streets and other public property; Removes dead, broken, misshapen and undesired branches, and tops trees using a variety of tools and lowers portions removed to the ground with ropes; Operates an aerial bucket as necessary to trim, prune or dismember trees for felling; Uses all tools of the trade including: ladders, ropes, power chain saws, band saws, axes, shovels, block and tackle and hydraulic saws; Keeps tools sharp and in good repair; Drives a truck and operates allied automotive equipment in connection with work; Trims and digs out protruding tree roots; Uses chipper and log splitter; Operates stump grinder; Reports to work on assigned duty schedule; Performs other reasonable duties as assigned.
Assists line and grounds crew as required; Responds to storm and emergency events as directed.

Thoroughknowledge of tree trimming methods; Thoroughknowledge of the occupational hazards of the job and the necessary safety precautions involving power line safety; Skill in the use and care of tools and equipment used in tree trimming; Ability to follow specific oral and written instructions.
Education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and considerable experience in working at heights and in the care and proper trimming of trees around electric wires.
Special License and Certificates:
Possession of commercial drivers license; Possession of or ability to obtain first aid and CPR certification; May be required to obtain electrical clearance tree trimmer certification.
