POSITION OVERVIEW:
We currently seek a high-performing engineer (Engineer II) with demonstrated potential to develop into positions of higher responsibility. This candidate will perform design, calculations and modeling for power and traction power systems in support of major public and transit infrastructure projects. This position will participate in all related activities for the design of power infrastructure within major New York transportation agencies, as well as clients elsewhere. The design will be based upon the principals of electrical engineering, current industry best-practices, applicable codes and standards, and agency standards and criteria.

The candidate will participate in field surveys, client and team meetings, design, calculations, computer aided calculations and analysis, development of technical specifications, participation in quality, safety and integration standard processes, construction support and other activities as may be required.

This candidate will be expected to participate extensively in computer modeling and analysis, including the development and modification of computer code. As such, extensive skill with computers is required. Proficiency with computer aided design software is desired.

The candidate will engage in projects developing designs for AC and DC traction power distribution via third rail and overhead contact systems. Prior experience with DC power or traction power systems is desired, the ability to develop further competency in traction power systems is required. The candidate will engage projects developing designs for the distribution of medium and low voltage AC power within transportation systems. Demonstrated skills and competency in the fundamentals of AC power distribution is required.

The desired candidate will have approximately 5 years of relevant work experience in AC power engineering.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
Performs various engineering and design assignments requiring the application of the principles of electrical engineering in conjunction with the applicable requirements of code, technical and agency standards. Design documents will include drawings, layouts, schedules, schematics, technical specifications, calculations, and other required documents.

Independently develops and/or supervises the creation of engineering products that meet customer quality requirements. This includes defining the problem, establishing the work scope, preparing the budget and schedule, planning the work, providing technical direction, and reporting the work status.

Performs analysis of electrical systems using both industry software (e.g. ETAP), as well as proprietary company software. Prepares reports documenting these simulations and the results; presents findings to supervisors and clients.

Under guidance of supervising engineers, develops expertise in traction power theory, design and analysis and applies this knowledge to current and future projects.

Participates in the maintenance and upgrade of proprietary company software.

Prepares or assists in preparing engineering computations, material quantity takeoffs, estimates, surveys, and designs. Participates in standard business design processes such as quality reviews and procedures, safety reviews and procedures, technical interface documentation, risk analysis, and other engineering documentation as may be required.

Reviewing supplier drawing submittals and technical bid analyses.

Provides input and direction to CAD Designer/Drafters working on the same project. May be required to provide input and direction to more junior engineers and technicians.

Performs other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate.

Qualifications

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
4-year degree in Electrical Engineering and 5-8 years of related work experience.

SKILLS/COMPETENCIES:
Requires basic engineering knowledge in electrical engineering and AC power distribution. Familiarity with PC software packages typically associated with engineering is also required. Familiarity with CAD programs and electrical simulation programs (e.g. ETAP) is desired.

Requires basic skills in computer programming using a current high-level, structured language, including familiarity with the fundamentals of databases and web applications, XML programming and Visual Basic for Applications (VBA).
