The Electrical Engineering Field Service Technician is for the employee with substantial knowledge of their responsible area(s). The position will use their technical knowledge of operations processes and equipment to aid in the completion of projects aimed at reducing costs, improving quality, improving reliability, expanding production capacity, developing new technologies and maintaining regulatory compliance. This Electrical Engineering Field Service Technician has mastered the skills required to lead complex field service efforts, and lead/mentor lower level staff.
This position is moderately self-directed, a moderate level of creativity (i.e., looking for innovative solutions) is expected, and decisions are reviewed closely by the supervisor.
The Electrical Engineering Field Service Technician will:
Lead projects aimed at improvements related to the expanded polystyrene bead area and thermoforming processes.
Use technical expertise in the development of current and future processes related to raw materials processing, delivery and recovery.
Lead projects of small to medium scope and contribute expertise as required on other projects.
Provide excellent customer service through coordinating/expediting plant requests.
Act as a contributing team member on projects led by others, applying skills and experience to responsibility area specific equipment and processes.
Occasionally direct and coordinate the work of technicians and/or others who assist on completing specified projects.
Participate on multidisciplinary project teams.
Specify and recommend purchases for parts, auxiliary systems and production lines.
Provide project reporting, trip reports, operating procedures and other written materials.
Interact with vendors, contractors, consultants, regulators, etc.
Assist with the design of instrumentation and control systems.
Assist with determining plant layout for equipment involved with projects.
Assist with piping and instrumentation diagrams.
Provide excellent customer service and communication.
Facilitate production plant requests & provide interface between Engineering, plants, vendors and suppliers.
Provide accurate, timely and complete information as requested by other departments, Engineering groups and production plants.
Provide technical support to Engineering groups, other Dart departments and production plants to improve equipment, processes and products.
Assist with capital/operating cost estimations for assigned projects.
Participate in the identification of equipment or process improvements in conjunction with all levels of production personnel.
Participate in the troubleshooting and analysis of problems to rapidly identify, evaluate, propose and implement solutions. This will involve process monitoring and control in Expanded Polystyrene Foam Cup and Formed Product areas, including related utilities.
Operate process equipment to test process improvement ideas. Coordinate and/or perform tests to improve quality and efficiency.
Diagnose process and equipment problems. Troubleshoot issues and provide recommendations for possible solutions.
Demonstrate technical knowledge for the resolution of process and equipment problems, implement solutions, maintain data and verify results.
Draft preventative maintenance requirements.
Install new components and equipment for electrical systems along with process and pneumatic control systems.
Perform modifications and retrofits to existing electrical and pneumatic equipment.
Monitor production operations and investigate/evaluate new technologies to resolve current or potential problems. Make recommendations for improvements as they relate to Dart processes.
Assist and manage compliance with environmental and safety regulations.
Assist in Process Hazard Analysis and Standard Operating Procedures and help to conform to necessary regulatory and electrical standards.
Perform basic electrical analysis of proposed systems to obtain specified performance and submit data to other engineering personnel for approval.
Train plant personnel on system and controls.
Requirements and Qualifications:
Degreed Candidates: Requires an Associates Degree w/ a minimum of 5 years of hands-on electrical experience, 8 years preferred; military experience in the electrical arena will be considered in lieu of the years of experience for those who are or will be honorably discharged.
Non-degreed Candidates: Requires a HS Diploma or equivalent w/ a minimum of 8 years of hands-on electrical experience, 12 years preferred; military experience in the electrical arena will be considered in lieu of the years of experience for those who are or will be honorably discharged.
Requires strong verbal and written communication skills.
Requires the ability to apply decimals and fractions.
Requires at least 3 years of experience diagnosing process and equipment problems, 8 years preferred.
Requires at least 1 year of experience planning and leading projects of limited scope, 5 years preferred.
Requires at least 1 year of experience interacting with equipment vendors and contractors, 5 years preferred.
Requires at least 1 year of experience assisting with the design and troubleshooting of instrumentation and control systems, including VFDs, PLCs, and HMIs, 3 years preferred.
Requires at least 1 year of experience in word processing, spreadsheet software, internet, and email, 2 years preferred.
Requires a valid driver's license and favorable motor vehicle report.
Requires the ability to obtain and maintain a passport.
Requires the ability to travel up to 75% of the time both domestically and internationally.
Requires the ability to be available for support day or night.
Prefer at least 1 year of experience using CAD software.
Prefer experience with personal computer repair and computer networks.
Prefer experience with Opto 22® hardware and software.
Prefer experience with National Instruments LabView®.
Prefer experience with thermoforming processes.
