The candidate will lead the Brooks Life Sciences’ Electrical Engineering team and be responsible for the design and introduction of new leading edge equipment in the rapidly growing field of automated sample storage.
Responsibilities: New product design – concept definition, development of engineering specifications, design documentation, design verification and software integration support, transition to manufacturing. Success will require meeting or exceeding cost, performance, and reliability goals. May serve as a project leader, with oversight of cross functional resources and deliverables. Product support, including Cost reduction, FACA and EOL resolution. Leading and mentoring staff both technically and interpersonally.
Required skills and experience: BSEE with 10 years of experience, MSEE with 5 years of experience, or equivalent. Technical leadership; able to create electrical designs with distinct cost, reliability, and performance advantages. Team leadership; capable of managing design, budget, and schedule on cross functional projects.PCB design, simulation and verification expertise. Electrical subsystem design proficiency (integration of PCBs, cables, connectors, circuit breakers, packaging requirements, etc). Strong analytical skills and ability to troubleshoot electrical equipment at system and board level; experience leading 8D teams. Experience and appreciation for Six Sigma tools, Pugh matrix methods and DFMEA as part of a design process. Designing for regulatory and EMC compliance; familiarity with EMC tests and associated diagnosis. Ability to mature start-up mentality and cultivate and enforce process adherence. System level experience – must be familiar with methods of documenting large scale capital equipment with DIN-rail control cabinets. Working knowledge of relevant safety and compliance standards, including IEC-61010, EN-60204, Machinery and Low Voltage Directives. Thorough understanding of compliance to ROHS and REACH is a must. Hands on – must have familiarity with IPC-610 and IPC-620; familiarity with cable design and routing. Consensus builder, must work well in a team. Ability to communicate design details clearly and effectively, good presentation skills. Experience with MS Office applications, Altium EDA, AutoCAD. Prefer experience with automation and refrigeration systems that are expected to have a serviceable life of 10+ years.
