RES Americas, a leading EPC company in the renewable energy field, is searching for a SCADA ENGINEER to become part of the engineering team. This position is based in Broomfield, CO, and requires extensive travel to project sites.

The successful candidate will design network and SCADA systems for utility scale wind and solar power projects. Key aspects include design, integration, operational support and troubleshooting of network and communication systems for substations, wind turbines, PV inverters, meteorological data and the interconnection of the power plant with the grid.

Projects are distributed across the United States and Canada. Ability to obtain a Canadian Work Permit is required .

Responsibilities:

  • Develop estimates, reliability analyses and communication / SCADA requirements taking into consideration facility studies, SIA, LGIA and various interconnection standards.
  • Understand requirements of SPS/RAS schemes associated with generation plants.
  • Perform evaluation of substation control and protection schemes.
  • Evaluate project specific telecommunication requirements.
  • Develop standard PID control loop functional specifications for power system generation control.
  • Retrofit existing control schemes as necessary, including documenting revisions.
  • Prepare specifications for SCADA / communication systems for substation design and build contracts.
  • Prepare scopes of work and manage consultants.
  • Review communications design of substation subcontractors, and wind turbine suppliers.
  • Support integration and site commissioning of substation communications.
  • Support operations and maintenance ongoing requirements.
  • Work professionally with clients, vendors, employees, managers and supervisors.
  • Requirements:

  • Recent electrical engineering graduate with network and computer communication focus. Some experience in substation communication design and controls is preferred.
  • Knowledge of industrial protocols (DNP3, MODBUS).
  • Knowledge of computer programming C++ and Python.
  • Understanding of WAN/LAN networking, including NERC CIP requirements, and Firewall/Router programming.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to travel to project sites approximately 50 percent.
  • Proficiency in MSOffice and Outlook.
  • Education:

    BS degree in electrical engineering or equivalent experience.
