The current vacancy is in the General Services Division of the Public Works Department.
Under general supervision, performs skilled journey-level work in maintaining, repairing and installing electrical equipment; reads and understands electrical blueprints; makes electrical installation decisions; operates heavy equipment such as 50 ft. aerial lift truck and hydro-crane; uses electrical tools and instruments; inspects street light installations; and performs other work as required.
Maintains lighting in streets, parks, and other City-owned buildings; works with light and heavy equipment; drives and operates an aerial lift truck, 50 ft. aerial lift truck, hydro-crane for pole setting and removing, or a three-quarter (3/4) ton pick-up; uses instruments to test and troubleshoot electric circuits interprets drawings to determine the operations of electrical equipment such as storm pumping stations, gate and door operators, steam cleaners, fleet washing systems, and crane operators; installs cable for telephones, computers and other signaling devices; and installs house wiring circuits in new facilities and facilities that are being remodeled; uses hydraulic benders for fitting conduits; operates a jack hammer for the removal of concrete.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Applications will be accepted only for those applicants who clearly demonstrate on the COMPLETED City application AND resume that they possess the minimum qualifications which include:
• High school diploma or GED equivalent AND
• One year of journey-level experience in electrical installation, maintenance or repair work of
public or commercial facilities, OR
• Equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the capabilities to
perform the described duties.
• Licenses, Certificates and Special Requirements: Possession of a valid Class "C" California driver's license. A Class "B" California driver's license without airbrake restriction must be obtained within the six-month probationary period. Must be able to pass color vision test. Applicants must submit a current State of California DMV printout from the Department of Motor Vehicles (dated within the last two (2) months of the filing deadline). There will be no substitutions for the official Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) printout. OTHER MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge of: Practices, methods, tools, materials, and equipment of the electrical trade; National Electrical Code; safe work methods and safety regulations related to the work; and sprinkler clock circuits and water pumping motor circuits. Ability to: Exercise independent judgment and initiative within established guidelines; install, maintain and repair electrical devices; drive and operate equipment requiring a Class "B" driver's license such as a 50ft. aerial lift truck and hydro crane; and establish and maintain effective working relationships. Skill in: The use and care of tools and equipment of the electrical trade; and locating and adjusting defects in electrical systems and equipment. Physical Conditions or Special Working Conditions: Must possess sufficient strength and stamina to lift and remove objects weighing up to 90 pounds, depending on the job assignment. Must be willing to work indoors or outdoors in all weather conditions and to work in confined areas and from heights and with exposure to unpleasant and potentially hazardous conditions. May be required to work nights, weekends and holidays.
Oral Appraisal Interview: (Weighted: 100%) October 22, 2013 (Tentative). An appraisal will be made of the applicant's education, experience and personal qualifications for the position.
