Working in the Division of Shaft Maintenance, under direct supervision, the selected candidate will assist electricians in the operation, installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical equipment, including but not limited to lights, outlets, alarm systems and wiring, located in the shaft chambers along City tunnels 1, 2, and 3; use hand tools in the performance of electrical related work and is familiar with and use precision instruments essential to the position; perform work in both permit and non-permit required confined spaces; adhere to all Agency Environmental Health & Safety policies; and operate a motor vehicle and other power equipment necessary to perform the job.

Minimum Qual Requirements

1. Three years of full-time satisfactory experience acquired within the last 15 years as an electrician’s helper or apprentice electrician; or

2. At least one and one-half years of full-time satisfactory experience acquired within the last 15 years as an electrician’s helper or apprentice electrician plus relevant education or training acquired in a trade school, technical school or vocational high school approved by a state’s Department of Education or comparable governmental agency to make up the equivalent of the remaining required experience. Six months of acceptable experience will be credited for each year of relevant education or training.

Additional Information

At the time of appointment Motor Vehicle Driver's License valid in the State of New York is required.

Residency Requirement

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County. To determine if the residency requirement applies to you, please discuss with the agency representative at the time of interview.
